I had a video interview followed by an on-site interview for a less senior position. At the conclusion of that interview, I was encouraged by the hiring manager and recruiter to apply for a managerial role based on my experience. The conversation with the recruiter was that I “definitely belonged at SVB” but they thought I might be better off in a more senior role. I had another on-site interview for that role, followed by yet another interview. After all of this, not only did I not get an offer for the role the hiring team encouraged me to apply for, I didn’t get an offer for the role I had interviewed for prior. All in all, it felt like a huge waste of time and as if I was strung along by an indecisive group of senior managers. It was the single most irritating hiring process I have ever been through in my career.
