      Software Engineer Interview

      11 May 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Oyster in Mar 2022

      Interview

The process was somewhat normal initial recruiter call > tiny take-home question sheet > pairing session. The first recruiter was amazing. He was super energetic and had a lot of positive things to say about the team/business which made me excited about their mission. However, during the pairing interview, I was immediately turned off. I had two male interviewers who were super condescending and would laugh or smirk as I answered a question. I'm not sure if it was because I was a junior engineer or a woman but definitely had never been treated that poorly during an interview before. It was a very uncomfortable 1.5 hours. Clearly, some indicators of an ego culture and I'm actually thankful for such glaring red flags early on as it prevented wasting any more of my time on this company.

      Software Developer Interview

      21 Sept 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Oyster in Sept 2022

      Interview

A recruiter contacted me to take part in the interviewing process. I first had a call with him for about 30 mn and was asked to do a take-home assessment. That's when things started to go really bad. The following week, I received an email from the recruiter telling me I was no longer considered for that role because my skills and experiences did not match! I was just shocked! First I never applied to the process, I was contacted by the recruiter, and second I never received any feedback for the take-home test I take time to do and I did it well, I have no doubt about that. So finally, I have a really bad experience with Oyster interviewing process, they've shown no respect for dumping me like that.

      Question 1

I was asked some screening questions like "tell me about yourself" ... I can't, unfortunately, talk about the take-home assessment since some NDA covers it.
