I am sharing this feedback based on my recent interview experience in early December for a managerial role in web operations for Hyderabad location.
I have 13 years of experience in web operations and had applied through the company’s career site. I received a call from HR after almost a month, by which time I had to revisit the role details. The HR discussion was professional and clear. I was informed about the interview structure, what to prepare, and an hour-long interview was scheduled. Based on the role and discussion, I prepared accordingly, expecting a meaningful technical and managerial conversation.
However, the actual interview experience was disappointing. The interviewer joined without any introduction and did not explain the role, team, or expectations. For a managerial position, I was surprised to see an intern handling the interview panel. This did not feel professional or appropriate for the level of the role.
After a brief discussion about my background, I was asked to share my screen and solve an Excel formula question. This was completely unrelated to the role I had applied for and to my experience in web operations. When questioned, I was told this was to check how I handle “unexpected situations.” I strongly feel this approach is unnecessary and unfair. Testing Excel skills for a role that does not require Excel does not reflect real job scenarios and does not evaluate relevant capabilities. Even after knowing my hesitation to excel questions, it followed couple of more Excel related questions.
The interview, which was scheduled for one hour, ended within 30 minutes without proper closure. If there was no intent or content to utilize the full slot, it should not have been scheduled that way. This shows a lack of respect for the candidate’s time and effort.
Overall, the process felt unstructured and poorly planned. It gave the impression that the hiring team was either not aligned on the role or not serious about evaluating candidates fairly. I hope this feedback is taken constructively to improve the interview experience for future candidates.
