      Wholesale Manager Interview

      27 Apr 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Meli Melo (London, England) in Apr 2018

      Interview

Avoid if you can! Let me tell you my awful experience. Despite the very bad review on glass door, I still went to the interview. Gutted! After first interview, I was asked to do a business plan as part of recruitment process by CEO. So I spent 3 days to prepare (14 slides), the document was sent to him . I got a reply and ask me to come for a second interview, however with a request ' Pls can you also select a list of potential stockist in the Asia pac reason as part of your research from a Wholesale perspective, I would be interested to understand what wholesale doors you would seek to work with.' I like to do things wholeheartedly, I then spent another 3 days research work with comprehensive details about exactly target customers in China, Japan, Korea, HK, Taiwan and the rest of Asia, again sent to him. When I went to interview, I was asked to do a presentation. Started off with the potential customer list that I was created. The first question was ' How did you collect the potential wholesale list in Asia Pac? ' Second questions was' List top three sources where you find them' The interview with no explain of details of the job, it is more like the CEO wants to dig out some information from me rather. One hour later, I have received an email with no appreciation for FREE work I have done for him, but blame on me for not being research their brand, and sales channel properly( so why he invited me to do the presentation if I am that bad). My advice is to any of the potential candidate, don’t do the free work. The company may just pick up your brain no intention of hiring anyone. By the way, I was told by the CEO during the first interview about company funding and exit plan with big potential on this job, it seems a joke now I am looking at it.

Thank you for this feedback, this was a second round of interview. We do things thoroughly to ensure we hire the right people for the role, so we do ask candidates to prepare a thorough presentation to assess their capabilities for the role. We also ask two colleagues to interview the candidate in a panel and make a united decision to proceed with the hire. This is in response to previous bad reviews, we have tightened up all of our processes internally. We only invited two candidates for the second interview, and you were one of those candidates. It was unfortunate you did not succeed in the role, and the other candidate won the role and the position is now closed. I don't thank you for your work, as we don't use the work that candidates bring, and they are not successful, we destroy the work. We do take forward the work with the candidates that are successful for the role. We know the answers for the tests that we set the candidates so we are just probing and analysing the candidates capability. We wish you all the success in finding the right role and we are sorry that you felt this way after the interview. At meli melo we pride ourselves on taking time to find first class candidates that can add to an exciting growth story.
