      Category Manager Interview

      17 Aug 2015
      Anonymous employee
      Raleigh, NC
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at IBM (Raleigh, NC) in Feb 2011

      Interview

Extensive three level interview with specific questions relation to travel tolerance, client experience, sourcing experience, sourcing steps. Many walk-me-through examples we asked for. Interviewers were very knowledgeable especially about the categories they were experts in. There were a number of phone interviews before getting to a face to face interview.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

You are building a plant in China for a electronics manufacturer. Walk me through it.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at IBM (Carrollton, TX) in Oct 2024

      Interview

Initial interview with HR Rep (went well) and then I was scheduled with hiring manager with team member a week later. Our team's connection was horrible and yet we made it work. Basic questions but really wanted to make sure that I was willing to accept the relocation provision and could not start until I arrived. Interview ended early than the schedule time. Again, I could not really interview well with the connection being so messy.

      Category Manager Interview

      2 Jan 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at IBM

      Interview

Phone interview with two upper managers in the department, pretty straightforward, normal questions about past experience and why you are looking to leave current position. Was selected for an in person interview and they flew me down to Raleigh, NC for the interview. The process for getting a flight and car was very tedious. They waited until the day before to get me the information for my flight which I had to change because I had to arrange extended day care. They accommodated me quite easily, it was just a hassle. When I arrived in Raleigh, the credit card they used to reserve the rental car was declined and I had to pay for it out of pocket. What if I didn't have the money? Anywho, the interview in person was 4 hours long and I met with 5 different managers. They made me do a case study and use a whiteboard to explain how I would handle a sourcing situation they depicted in the case study. They do not give you a lot of background and you have to make a lot of assumptions. Think outside of the BOX!!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Case study was the most difficult portion of the interview. They really grilled me as they pretended to be the client.
