      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at HubSpot (Cambridge, MA)

      Interview

Phone screen (generic) after being referred in by existing employee. Then followed a phone interview with the hiring manager. Then, an in-person series of interviews with hiring manager, HR partner (or equivalent), department director, and financial controller responsible for the department. Two useful points: 1. The job posting and my conversations with the team leading up to my in-person round offered a poor (at best) description of the position for which I was interviewing for. It was apparent that there was no unified awareness / expectation of/for the realistic roles and responsibilities of the position. The job positing was obviously written to attract and appeal to potential applicants, but I learned quickly once arriving in person that the sole and primary function of the role would be to handle 1 specific set of tasks exclusively on a daily basis. Employers should be clear and transparent with applicants to, if only, limit the amount of time wasted on both sides. 2. HubSpot tries to sell the world on their cult-like "Culture Code." I really liked this going into the process and was excited that it aligned with many of my core beliefs. I made it a point to ask my interviewers about it and soon learned that it is, for lack of a better word, a big sham. Nobody cares, and nobody I met in the department aspired to work to those standards. I asked an HR employee a "What word would you add to the culture code?" question only to get a sarcastic laugh and a "It's too early for me to think about that kind of sh!t." Enough said. Their offices, free beer, and office tours are wonderful though. However, I'd rather continue interviewing at Amazon where being "Amazonian" is actually revered, respected, and important - oh yeah, and they also have an awareness of what they are looking for. Waste of my time but I wish them the best.

Sorry to hear you had a poor experience with us, I'm disappointed to hear this feedback. I've circled up with our team to understand how we can ensure we learn from this experience, and needless to say, part of our Culture Code is humility and never assuming we've got it right--we'll learn from this feedback and improve. -Katie

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot in Mar 2015

      Interview

      - Got contacted through LinkedIn InMail - Responded and recruiter got back to me within 1 day - Organized first call to explore the role and fit. Discussed numbers straight away and decided to move forward. - The recruiter was really cheerful and helpful at all times! - One more direct phone interview with hiring manager. - On-Site interview for 3 hours with 4 different people, But that was the final step.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Main questions about the cultural fit, knowledge of the role, examples of my current and past experience. Very straight forward, without complex questions. Make sure to read the culture deck, before interviewing and also know more about Inbound Marketing.
