      Software Engineer Interview

      22 Dec 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Hiya (Seattle, WA) in Dec 2022

      Interview

8 rounds of interviews: - Phone screen with HR gauging alignment between past experiences, and the role requirements - Proctored (recorded screen share) online assessment with 5 questions (90 minutes): 3 theory problems, medium level (DP) algo problem, database problem - Behavioral - Systems design - culture fit - behavioral - another live coding - meeting with hiring manager The recruiters are deceitful. They claim that the company is hiring the best and brightest engineers, regardless of the role. To emphasize, they don't want to reveal pay range, claiming that you will be placed in a specific level, and the pay range will be based on that level. At the end, they told me I'm too senior for the role, and encouraged to apply for a senior role in the future. So after acing all interviews, and telling me that I'm too senior for the role, you want me to apply and go through this waste of time? Pffff...

First and foremost, thank you for your feedback. Providing an excellent candidate experience is something that we take very seriously and we completely understand your frustration and concerns. Our company, including our recruiting team, believes in transparency in all we do, and we would never intentionally mislead a candidate. I can confirm that from the date you applied until earlier this week, our team was open to multiple levels, but due to changes in business needs and circumstances, we narrowed the scope of requirements. I understand that this is disappointing news, and while we recognize that this role was not the “right fit” given its new direction, we are happy to visit other opportunities with you in the future. If you are open to it, I would love to have a conversation about your interview experience as we are constantly trying to improve. Again, thank you for your feedback and I hope to hear from you soon, Lauren Harper, Sr. Manager, Global Talent

      Budapest
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Hiya (Budapest)

      Interview

There was an initial phone screen, a technical round, take-home assignment and a 6 hour on-site interview. Cool people/team, but the process is such a waste of time and energy. Technical loop questions were vague and lacked direction. I regret investing so much of my time.
