Information Security Lead Linux Administrator Interview

      20 Sept 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at GE in May 2013

      Interview

A total mess. Got a preliminary questionnaire from HR which I filled out. I then got an email from a manger requesting a 1:1 interview which went well. So far so good. It was May and she told me that she wanted someone on the ground by the end of June. Then it got weird.... They set up a technical interview with two of their techs and with the manager sitting in. They asked some relatively easy questions and stopped after about 5 minutes. Since I had answered correctly I was a little perplexed. I assumed that they didn't like me. A month passed during which I heard nothing. I finally received an email from HR stating that the position had been cancelled so I assumed that was that. The next day I got a call from HR stating that the manager wanted to set up video call with me. Because the manager was on vacation the call would have to be in late July. When we had the call I asked what was going on and the manager said that she didn't know why HR had cancelled the position but that she had them open a new req. and had specifically requested that I be on the list. Ok great... She also said that she was considering me not only for the one position but for another in the group. She said that I was a strong candidate and that that the next step would be for me to speak to her management. A month passed with no word. I sent her an occasional email asking for status and she replied about half of the time. Finally, in early September, I got another email from HR stating that the job had been cancelled. I wrote the manager for even though enough time had passed that I knew that I would not be moving forward, I felt that I was due some courtesy. She replied with the usual "We liked you but we were not in love with you," line. After my experience with them I would not work for them.
