      Investment Associate Interview

      7 Dec 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Portland, OR
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Portland, OR) in Dec 2017

      Interview

I talked to a recruiter on campus, the next day I had an interview. Very basic questions then a lot of talking about themselves I didn't hear back until almost a month and a half later, I got a phone call asking to set up a phone interview. Again very basic questions then more of them explaining the company. A week later I got an email saying they were flying me out to Camus, WA. I stayed there for two days total this was the strange part. I got a 15 minute tour by someone who was hired 5 months ago, pretty basic then lead me into interview room where my schedule who who was interviewing me and what department and when was on the door. The interview room was all glass windows so everyone working on the floor could see you. First guy came in asked pretty simple STAR questions but challenged every answer I gave, it threw me off. I had 3 interviews all with maybe 5 minutes in between. It was a very intense atmosphere. At the end I found out each interviewer scores you on a specific thing. You can only get an offer if you score high enough with everyone you interview with that day. So even if you do great and have a great connection with one manager but the other one doesn't find you to be a good fit you will not get an offer. Very strange.

      Interview

Don’t apply. The only entry position is client service associate which is basically busy work nobody wants to do. They respond to your application quickly because HR is measured by success on how many interviews they do. So they literally interview knowing that they aren’t going to hire. That’s why they always have job openings listed on their website. So they can keep HR busy. The firm has no flexibility. 50 hours of busy work if you do take the job. The process consists of a phone screening then round robin with multiple teams claiming they have open positions but again they only hire CSA for new hires. Questions are all normal behavioral and really easy but hiring is really dependent on if enough people have quit recently that they need bodies.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (Camas, WA) in Jun 2021

      Interview

The overall interview process was pretty lengthy. For starters, you aren’t applying for the “Investment Associate” role but rather multiple roles that the company thinks you’d fit in well with. First you meet with a recruiter, then you meet with multiple hiring managers, then a debrief with a recruiter about your experience, and then back to one of the hiring managers, and finally culminating with a Vice President or “higher-up.” All this being said, everyone was very polite and welcoming throughout the process. Interview questions were standard behavioral questions with a few random ones mixed in. Expect the whole process to take at least a month from start to finish.
