      Team Manager Interview

      22 Feb 2024
      Anonymous employee
      Inverurie, Scotland
      Accepted offer
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Co-op (London, England) in May 2022

      Interview

Face to face interview with lots of scenario based questions. I was asked to complete store walk and list things I would improve but was not asked anything about this in the interview so unsure why this was requested. It took around 2 weeks for them to come back to me regarding the outcome. Unfortunately I was not successful and they did not provide feedback, after advising in the interview that they would for this role.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the role. Please do contact the store to speak to the manager who interviewed you for some feedback.
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Co-op (Inverurie, Scotland) in Apr 2022

      Interview

The interview took 3 hours, it was brutal to be honest, and I'm pretty sure that position doesn't exist anymore, so all was for nothing. Absolutely batshit crazy shite company, worst retailer employer you can set for.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Questions were dumb af, like are there all items the shop that has labels for them, had to literally write 4 pages essay just to satisfy them.

We're sorry to hear of your experience. Some of our stores still have Team Manager roles and these are usually in our larger stores. As part of the interview process you may have been asked to complete a floor walk of the store, this is standard in many retailers and would assess your observation skills and attention to detail.

      Team Manager Interview

      Declined offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Co-op (Horsham, England) in Feb 2019

      Interview

After I sent off my application, I was asked to complete a short, Is Co-op Right for You?assessment. Following this, I was contacted by a member of the friendly HR team to arrange a time for a telephone interview. The telephone interview lasted about 15 minutes, I was asked a number of generic questions and finally a competency based question. Having completed this stage successfully I was invited to attend an interview with the area manager. I arrived for the interview on the specified day, only to find that the area manager was not actually available and subsequently it was held by the store manager. It was a very relaxed interview where I was asked a number of competency and scenario based questions which I answered using relevant examples from my past experience, we also has a brief chat about my current role and what made me want to leave to join the Co-op, again this was very relaxed. Overall, a very positive experience and I very much look forward to starting in my new role. Unfortunately having made contact with the area manager on several occasions to discuss the next steps, he was unwilling to meet me in a location that was convenient for both parties and therefore I later declined the offer. Co-op, I suggest that you look into this particular case as this was ultimately the deciding factor for me. Extremely disappointed.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Describe a time when you have driven your team to achieve a performance based result.
      Answer question

      Question 2

You are a new team manager at your store, and you notice that several members of the team are displaying behaviour that is inappropriate. One of these individuals is the longest serving employee. How do you deal with the situation?
