      Customer Advisor Interview

      7 Jan 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Treforest, Wales
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at B&Q (Treforest, Wales) in Nov 2015

      Interview

Similar to others, turned up at store and everyone was taken to a break room and told what we would be doing; A small presentation, a group exercise and a 20 minute walk around the store with a shadow. All were fairly easy; the group exercise to build a tower that could support nails was simple as the materials we were given could just be stacked up on top of each other, no engineering or awkward tape required. They are looking for teamwork, which includes both speaking up and making sure everyone is included. The presentation was picking out a product and given 10 minutes to prepare, then we had to sell it to the room. If you pick a very simple product then it is much easier, as people picking things like paints and drill bits were asked questions about various other brands and compatibility etc, not that they expect you to know but it was putting people on the spot. Walking around the store also easy, just approaching random customers and asking if they need any help, and the employee shadowing would help them if needed. After all of this, half the people were told to go home and the rest given interviews, which were 2:1 of just having a chat and given some competency based questions. THE PROBLEM came in after this. Was told I would be called within a week, which I was happy with as I urgently needed a job and thought I had made a really good impression. Almost 2 weeks later I called up to inquire and was told the store manager was on holiday and I would receive a call the following Monday. The following Friday I called up again, and was told that someone from HR would call me back within 30 minutes after leaving my number, which I didn't receive either. As at this point I was getting a little frustrated and it had been close to a month, I called up the next morning and was told the HR manager had gone on holiday and wouldn't be back for a few more days. I gave up after this. I know it's the run up to Christmas but I felt like it was a really disrespectful way to treat prospective employees. I would have been satisfied with any kind of communication, even if it was 'we are waiting until after Christmas before things settle', but instead I had to chase them up and constantly got fobbed off as well as lied to (Being told someone would definitely call me next week, in 30 mins, etc etc), and nearly 2 months after my interview I haven't received any communication.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell us about a time.....(Worked in a team, led a team, faced a challenging situation etc etc), they had many more questions than were asked, as the one time I found a question difficult they gave me a different one.
