What is a typical working day like at Dollar General?

None whatsoever, I don't recommend.

Terrible working schedule, never enough employees on one shift, low pay, no pay raise, never enough hours.

3out of 6 days working alone for 6 out of 8 hours having to attend to customers and their needs, checking in delivery trucks and stocking frozen/ milk pallets without help until next shift worker comes in.

They are so desperate to keep you that it's unlikely to be fired unless you do something illegal.

Minimum wage. Expected to run the register, stock, and clean all at once. Corporate only allows management to schedule two employees for evening shift, wants both employees at the register all evening, yet knows that it's nearly impossible to finish stocking in the morning most days. This leaves one employee to finish stocking while the other runs the register alone, often causing lines to form. The computers are also prone to freezing up and can take anywhere from a few seconds to nearly an hour to reboot.

Terrible management wanted us to put away 4-5 metal rolling containers of stock in one night (that's about 6 totes full of stock items per-cart) and fired me without even letting me know, I was just all of a sudden not being scheduled and then my login stopped working one day.

There literally was no good reason to work here

-Asked for 15-20 hours a week since I'm a full time student got scheduled 38 repeatedly -Bashed by management repeatedly for asking for help since I was undertrained -Bashed by management for taking a 30 minute break during a 8 hour shift -Chewed out for going home after puking -When the toliet flooded I called my manager and she said, and I QUOTE, "oh it's cause the building's haunted" which was of no help in the moment and then told me to just "let it run out" -one time I was scheduled with a coworker and he didn't show up because he had DIED overnight.

Steals wages, work open to close, management from the bottom to the top is rotten to the core, no benefits, keep employees 1 hour under benefit eligibility, workload is impossible to keep up with if all the company allows you to have is a skeleton crew. When making the schedule we are only allowed to give out a certain amount of hours and it changes from week to week. And if there are not enough hours to give hour to cover every shift the manager has to cover them, sometimes it's open to close for multiple days. Honestly I'm sure half of what they do has to be illegal.

Can build a great team, can be fun, enjoyed seasonal setting and planograms.

Long hours, not much payroll hours given to stores to have extra employees on truck stocking days. Poor hourly pay for employees-high turnover. If you have a call out, manager must drop what they are doing and cover-could be all day and night.
