Exceptional care isn’t defined by a single moment or clinical experience alone, but by the compassion, consistency, and teamwork our 48,000 caregivers bring to every interaction from check-in to end of life care and every point in between. We’re thrilled to announce that our enterprise parent organization, BJC Health System, is now BJC Health—because every moment deserves exceptional care. Saint Luke's has been part of the Kansas City community for more than 140 years, and we're not going anywhere. As we step forward into an exciting new era as one, united system, we'll continue to provide expert, compassionate care as the Saint Luke's team you know and trust.
Congratulations to Nick Barto on his first official day as BJC Health System’s President and CEO. Nick joined BJC in 2018 as executive vice president and chief financial officer and was named president of BJC Health System and of BJC’s East Region, BJC HealthCare, in January 2024. “Since joining BJC, I’ve seen the unwavering dedication of our caregivers across our hospitals, clinics, and behind the scenes each and every day,” said Nick. “I’m honored to lead BJC Health System as we continue working together to provide extraordinary care with patients at the center of all we do and strengthen our legacy as a mission-oriented academic health care leader for generations to come.”

Michelle is a milk preparation technician in the NICU at Saint Luke's Hospital of Kansas City. Her job is to prepare feedings for NICU babies, including using human donor milk. Saint Luke’s was the first in Kansas City to implement the use of human donor milk in a NICU. Many new parents can't yet produce enough milk to feed their babies at birth, so alternatives are used such as human donor milk. Michelle works with the Human Milk Banking Association of North America to ensure our NICU is fully stocked. The milk she uses undergoes a very rigorous screening process. Human milk is a great source of minerals, proteins, and fat for newborns. It contains many nutrients to support the baby's immune system and brain development, which is especially important for NICU babies.
Saint Luke’s employees are making a significant impact in the Kansas City community through our "Social Impact Day" initiative, an annual paid day off to help others however the employee chooses. So far this year, more than 2,000 employees have given their time and skills towards various causes, totaling more than 18,000 volunteer hours. We remain dedicated to improving the lives of others in our community, both inside and outside our hospital walls.
