Micron’s efforts to build an engineering workforce that has better women 🙋representation of women starts with identifying potential candidates in universities to participate in our 𝙂𝙡𝙤𝙗𝙖𝙡 𝙒𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙈𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙞𝙥 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢. This is a 6-week journey where young women with engineering talent are nurtured to take the next big step into the workforce. Women mentors from across Micron’s functions participated to help the young students grow, make memories, build relationships and widen their horizons over the 6 weeks. The program culminated in a visit to the Micron Experience Center in Hyderabad where they learned about Micron’s legacy of innovation and our portfolio of products, and the end uses that they enable.
Micron Announces New Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility in India Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU), one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies, today announced plans to build a new assembly and test facility in Gujarat, India. Micron’s new facility will enable assembly and test manufacturing for both DRAM and NAND products and address demand from domestic and international markets. Phased construction of the new assembly and test facility in Gujarat is expected to begin in 2023. Phase 1, which will include 500,000 square feet of planned cleanroom space, will start to become operational in late 2024, and Micron will ramp capacity gradually over time in line with global demand trends. Micron expects Phase 2 of the project, which would include construction of a facility similar in scale to Phase 1, to start towards the second half of the decade. Micron’s investment will be up to $825 million over the two phases of the project and will create up to 5,000 new direct Micron jobs and 15,000 community jobs over the next several years. Under the government's “Modified Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) Scheme,” Micron will receive 50% fiscal support for the total project cost from the Indian central government and incentives representing 20% of the total project cost from the state of Gujarat. The combined investment by Micron and the two government entities over the course of both phases will be up to $2.75 billion.
Micron Launches U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors (UPWARDS) for the Future Micron Technology, Inc., the largest foreign investor in Japan over the last five years, today announced the launch of the U.S.-Japan University Partnership for Workforce Advancement and Research & Development in Semiconductors (UPWARDS) for the Future. Aimed at cultivating a more robust and highly-skilled semiconductor workforce for the two countries, the partnership will drive emerging research while increasing the pipeline of students studying a semiconductor curriculum. U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Keiko Nagaoka presided over the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU), marking a step forward in advancing U.S.-Japan technological competitiveness and resilience. UPWARDS for the Future, established by Micron and other industry partners, brings together 11 universities from across the U.S. and Japan to develop leading semiconductor curricula, creating opportunities for cross-collaboration. The founding universities are known for their high-quality education and proven commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) and closing the gender equity gap in STEM, which is crucial to building the industry’s workforce of the future.
Micron Breaks Ground on Childcare Center in Idaho as Part of Idaho Community Investment Framework Micron Technology, Inc. one of the world’s largest semiconductor companies and the only U.S.-based manufacturer of memory, will break ground at the future site of its Childcare Center in Idaho and formalize the Idaho Community Investment Framework today, alongside Idaho Governor Brad Little and Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. The Idaho Community Investment Framework reflects the shared priorities Micron and its partners have identified to lead inclusive growth across the state. Micron’s previously announced plans to invest $15 billion through the end of the decade to construct a new fab for leading-edge memory manufacturing in Boise, Idaho, was made possible by the anticipated federal grants and tax credits from the CHIPS and Science Act. This will be the first new memory manufacturing fab built in the U.S. in 20 years and is expected to create nearly 17,000 Idaho jobs.

‘Memory’ and ‘Chip’: Meet the Syracuse Zoo’s New Elephants. These adorable Asian elephant twins, pictured above with parents Mali and Doc, were recently born at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse, New York, near the site of Micron’s future leading-edge memory megafab. The zoo asked the public to name the “miracle twins,” and two Micron-themed names (In Hindi, “Yaad” means “memory” and “Tukada” means “chip”) came out winners.
