What we create is powerful. Who creates it is extraordinary. Dezmond Harrell didn’t expect to find his calling as a crane rigger and operator but over time has fallen in love with a career he is proud of at HII Newport News Shipbuilding. “I applied for the cranes thinking I would like it, but I’ve ended up loving it. I’ve enjoyed the work and the people out here. The people make the job what it is.” At HII, he understands the ships he helps build not only protect our nation, but carry real people, with real missions and that is why delivering quality matters. “My work matters because at the end of the day, lives are going to depend on these ships. We’ve got to put in quality work. It takes a lot of thought and planning to put these ships together. You can’t be complacent.” For Dezmond, being a shipbuilder isn’t just a job, it’s a mission that matters. #BeyondTheBuild #BuildIt https://hii.com/careers/
Achieving victory in modern aerial combat with the F-35 Lightning II demands more than just speed. Success in the skies requires high-fidelity virtual training, joint exercises and global teamwork to ensure mission readiness. In a recent demonstration of international cooperation, HII personnel at Nellis U.S. Air Force Base in Nevada, USA joined forces with F-35 pilots from the U.S. Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force for a coalition forces’ exercise in the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE). Deemed the U.S. Air Forces’ most hyper-realistic battlespace simulation ever, the JSE at the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center Nellis (JITTC-N) provides immersive battlespace training in a seamless, connected synthetic environment. HII is a key contractor in the software development, integration, support and operations of the JSE. Super cool stuff - with HII all over it. The U.S. Navy has confirmed a major milestone in undersea warfare: the successful forward-deployed launch and recovery of the Yellow Moray uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV), a variant of HII’s REMUS 600, from the HII-built USS Delaware (SSN 791), a Virginia-class submarine. This marks the first-ever torpedo tube deployment and recovery of a UUV in support of a tactical mission. Conducted in the U.S. European Command theater, the operation involved three sorties lasting 6–10 hours each. No diver assistance was required demonstrating autonomous capability, mission endurance, and real-world utility. HII's Ingalls Shipbuilding Hosts Educators in Externships “Our externship program is strengthening the ties between industry and education while also providing first-hand understanding of the critical work we do at Ingalls in support of our military partners,” said Susan Jacobs, vice president of human resources at Ingalls Shipbuilding. “We hope each of these educators return to their classrooms with a deeper appreciation for the critical skills necessary to be a shipbuilder and the career opportunities available at Ingalls.”
What better way to celebrate #NationalMaritimeDay than with a parade? #FleetWeekNewYork2024 kicked off with the much-anticipated Parade of Ships, featuring the USS Bataan (LHD 5) and USCGC Calhoun (WMSL 759), both built by Ingalls Shipbuilding, a Division of HII. 🛳 Check out these shots of the ships sailing on the Hudson River and this year’s reception area at the Intrepid Museum, which we proudly sponsored. An exciting week is ahead at #FleetWeekNYC2024
HII was proud to sponsor the 20th anniversary of the Easterseals DC MD VA Advocacy Awards in Washington, D.C., on May 1. This award honors advocates who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to advancing opportunities for veterans, military families, children and adults with disabilities, and low-income families. During the event, HII Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability and Compliance Officer Paul C. Harris spoke about the importance of partnerships and taking care of the service members who protect the nation.
HII's Syracuse facility serves as a hub for integrating various technologies crucial for supporting all branches of the U.S. military and other national security agencies. U.S. Rep. Brandon Williams (NY-22) recently visited. “I was excited to see the cutting-edge technologies that support our warfighters being developed right here in Central New York,” Williams said. “The work on electromagnetic warfare, sensors and control systems here in Syracuse, supporting our Army and Navy, is increasingly relevant as we seek to deter the advances of our adversaries. I’m proud of this facility’s strong contributions to our national defense and look forward to supporting these programs, along with the rest of our district’s priorities, in the upcoming Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act and defense appropriations bill.”
