Working part time as an English teacher from last year

Pros

Working with a reputed organization like Inlingua International comes with great benefits. You get exposure to a good working environment, you work under healthy working conditions and you are not dictated as to how you should work. There is a simple guideline issued to us teachers by the management – bind the interest of the students. I think this is quite good because teaching unwilling students is quite a task. But when those students start participating in the class, things become easier for both the teacher and the students. And that’s pretty much why I love working with Inlingua.

Cons

Working part-time means lesser salary than your colleagues. Apart from that, no issue at all.

Pros

Nice staff and co-workers. Supportive, approachable boss. Good (adult) students who want to learn but don't take things TOO seriously, either. Good textbooks and a curriculum that's easy to follow.

Cons

Pay isn't great. I'm not sure what the going rate is for ESL Teachers in an American city, but it seems on the low end. I might be wrong. For how high their enrollment is, I think they could pay more if they wanted to avoid the turnover that they have. No benefits or paid sick leave or sick days or anything like that. But that's to be expected when you only work eighteen hours per week. The idea is that you have another part-time job somewhere else.
