Pros

None currently - don't work for these people as a freelance counsellor if you want to get paid without enormous hassle

Cons

Workplace Options like to pay late - or maybe never if they can get away with it? For counsellors in United Kingdom who have been paid late by Workplace Options, you can claim £40 for each late paid invoice in the last six years under the Late Payments Legislation (google it). Typically this will apply to invoices paid outside the limit specified in your contract - generally 30 days. You can also claim interest. If taken to court they will pay up for unpaid invoices, £40 compensation per late-paid invoices, including invoices which have already been settled, interest, and court fees. Don't be put off by their solicitors, who will try to bluff you into believing that you can't claim. Workplace Options have already been successfully taken to court - and they paid in full !

Pros

Some healthy amenities--free fruit, fitness classes (although few have time to participate), chance to move up ONLY if you are willing to party and drink to excess with management, or is you are dating, or married to a nigh level team member

Cons

During the interview process and in the first few months, one gets the impression that the owner, president and senior level execs truly care about their employees, the product, and perhaps are honest people. Within a few months, the cruel truth appears—there are two levels of hierarchy. Senior level populated by the owner, president and vice presidents, plus the sales and account managers, who have “passed the test” ie: liberal, drinking buddies, relatives, greedy. Second level is everyone else, who are threatened, belittled, pushed, closely monitored, and treated dishonestly. Contractors and vendors aren’t paid, as funds are continually being shifted from place to place. The business goal is to make more and more money to line the pockets of the owner and president who continually brag about their trips and toys. Have never worked for a more disingenuous, dishonest, group of people. In order to stay, one must toss their values out the window. Very sad working condition for everyone involved.

Pros

As a contract counsellor the hourly rate seemed good.

Cons

eight months later I am still waiting to be paid for counselling work done. I have sent email after email. I get passed from person to person... I wonder if the multi nationals who employ WPO as their EAP know how badly they treat us! I am self employed.
