Terminated after 5+ years for moving, after upper management did the same.
Pros
Good pay and benefits while you're employed (3D Motion Designer: ~$76k salary + ~10% yearly bonus, raise usually at least commensurate with inflation).
Cons
My department went fully remote in March 2020 (and still is). My former boss—hired mid-2021 during the pandemic—lived 3 hours away. His boss moved 4 hours away to the beach after the company started working from home (this was discovered later, no subordinates were directly informed). Assuming the same rules applied to everyone, I informed them of my own plans to move 8 hours away. In return I was terminated with one half day left before taking vacation for the remainder of 2021. Since I had worked the entire calendar year, I asked upper management for my bonus after my firing. They agreed to pay a fraction, but deducted 25% because I was only "employed 3 full quarters." My termination paper from the company explicitly states the decision was *not* based on job performance, but solely on relocation. The company pays relatively well, but have made it clear honesty and good faith is not always extended back to the employee. VELUX also has no parental leave policy in the US.
