Pros

1. Very good benefits 2. Great networking when you move on 3. You’ll make great friends

Cons

1. CEO – ‘Sales Team get out there and sell, we are going to have a great trip to Mexico next year for those of you who win.’ a. Two day later 77 people were laid off 2. Integration team – How/why are some of these people selected? a. Just because they have been at Univar the longest, having the loudest voice or knowing buzz words, does not translate into doing things correctly. Again, upper management having NO CLUE what is really transpiring in the branches (this includes some GM’s as well). 3. KPI’s – GIVE ME A BREAK! These are laughable, what are they actually measured against? Where is this data pulling from? Better question, is this data…..CORRECT? a. Do we even have a Quality department that is devoted to quality? What is quality to Univar other than a mission statement we can pull out and show to our customers? b. Univar KPI’s – Transportation, Supply Chain, Customer Service. All of this can be manipulated to fall onto another department. They are meaningless, can’t even be measured accurately. 4. Shipping – Our huge investment that can’t capture all of our expenses. Oh, that shipment has known extra charges? Yeah, we can’t capture that (it’s a known issue) there isn’t anything we can do about it at this time (2 years later). 5. Moving up – Can you move up, yes. Do you have to be in an inner circle, yes. Can your manager block you, yes. Does that happen often, yes. 6. Middle Management – People voluntarily leave companies for pay and because of their managers, plain and simple. Do you think that upon our exit interviews we are going to burn a bridge and state how awful they were? a. Be mindful of which departments have an uptick of departures, ethics calls, etc. 7. Upper Management – ‘If they don’t get all of it done, they are out the door’. Hmm wonder where Middle Management learned this behavior from? a. A max exodus from one department and you then promote them to another, how do you think that won’t happen again? Is Univar really behind this type of behavior? b. I remember a two day seminar we aren’t supposed to speak of any longer called, The Value of the Person. Looks like that ideology flew right out the window and why, because now our CEO, President, VP’s and Board feel like we should be ruled with a Stalin like regime? 8. No laughing at Univar – I remember when I started here we not only worked hard but we laughed, genuinely looked forward to going to work. There may not be crying in baseball, but there will be at Univar.

Pros

Univar has a lot of technological resources. Benefits are just OK, slightly below par in my opinion. Bonuses are paid frequently (if they decide to actually pay you what you earned.

Cons

Man, where do I start? The only benefit I got out of my time with Univar, was that I have something to add to my resume. Working at Univar was such a horrible experience, it almost made me want to shift my focus to a whole new career field. I literally became depressed when working here. You really can trust no one. Everybody is out for themselves, and management is extremely manipulative and dishonest. I felt so betrayed here, as I truly believed my boss wanted the best for me, and later discovered it was essentially all a facade. Management encourages sellers to inflate their numbers, in order to meet weekly goals. Micromanagement is severe. The organization is constantly changing, so as soon as a strategy is implemented, it changes. In my less than 1 year, I had an experience where bonuses were paid out at less than half of what was earned. Univar he a "fifth quarter" bonus, that is paid out based on full year numbers. This bonus is uncapped. At least that is what they say. For the most recent Q5 bonus, which was supposed to be paid in early 2016, for the year 2015, these were capped after all sales had been recorded. During a conference call, each general manager announced that whatever the Q5 bonus was calculated to be, employees would be paid at 40%. Less than half of what was owed! To add insult to injury, we were not told this, until after 2015 had closed out. I don't understand how they did not know that there would not be enough $ to pay bonuses in full, until after the end of the full year, especially as the bonus calculations are figured by quarter. A lot of people did not get a lot of $ that was promised to them, and was expected. All management cares about is revenue and margin. They do not encourage you to pursue relationships with your customers, rather to get as much out of the customer as possible. I understand that this is sales, but taking advantage of customers is not wise or ethical business. Management is dishonest, and will say one thing to your face, and another behind your back (to your peers nonetheless). Nothing that was said about me ever got back to me, but a lot was said to me about other employees, that should never have been said. Univar is a commodity, rather than value-added, technical distributor. Management does not allow the time needed for opportunities to be created, and Coe to fruition. I'm not even posting this review because I am mad. Honestly, I did not enjoy writing this at all. But I wanted to help others keep from making the same mistake as me. If you are considering Univar, I would very strongly suggest you reconsider.

Pros

- Immediate coworkers were friendly with each other within my group but most have little sense of belonging or relatedness across groups. - Convenient since I live in Lombard (close to work) - As a global company, get to work with people around the world, which also can present challenges

Cons

- Leadership was incompetent and indecisive - Enterprise strategy and goals were weak - Processes were inefficient to non-existent - Two recent reduction in forces destroyed what little morale there was; many are constantly wondering if they are next - No work life balance whatsoever, when someone leaves they often did not backfill and you had to absorb the work - Nexeo acquisition is going to be a train-wreck based upon culture misalignment - My division President used to constantly lament about turnover being high and climbing but never seemed to have a clue why — he should have asked us as I would have given him an earful
