'Electric Investigator' at 9480 Brighton Rd, Henderson, CO (7:00am-3:30pm)
Pros
Description: punch in at 7am; receive work orders for day; load daily inventory on truck (ford ranger or similar; most manual trans). leave office around 7:30; arrive at 1st order; transfer job info from computer to paper (meter id, local info (north or south kinda stuff)); knock on door/locate meter (hope there aren't bushes); perform service [2-7 min] (open box, install jumper, close box, record info); back to truck in 5-15 min; perform computer portion (fairly basic and repetitive ~ 3-5 min); on to next job and repeat. No supervisor and generally easy work for pay ($15.50 as of 1/1/18). If you reliably do your job they never bother you. "doing your job" means punching in and out on time/ not waiting around the time-clock at 3:23pm. You'll get assigned, say, 10 or 15 meters for the day. as long as you get most done you'll be safe. From time to time I'll get a really easy route and get a lot done so i can take it easy the rest of the day. Another pro is it's pretty easy to get hired: background check, Motor Vehicle Record check, and a drug screen and you should be good.
Cons
No headroom. I guess moving over to Xcel as a lineman, or to USS (United Sales and Service) would be the next step to more responsibility and pay. The marketable skills learned at Tru-Check aren't too desirable. I guess it would be a good place to show you're a reliable employee. Blocked meters and inclement weather are a pain. Good thing it never rains here in Denver! It's a 5 min walk from the parking lot to the time clock so plan your accordingly.
