26% positive business outlook
Pros
Values a work/life balance Support team members Seemingly seeking to always improve
Cons
Production heavy Slow growth opportunities Average benefits
Pros
As others have said, great people and enjoyable clients and projects. Remote work was nice for work/life balance while it lasted. These things kept me at Thesis for multiple years despite so many challenges. I always saw so much potential in the company!
Cons
Room for growth is nearly impossible at the managerial level, no matter how well you perform or how far above and beyond you go. Being a high performer without any opportunities for growth is draining for those with ambitious career goals. There is a lot of favoritism around promotions which are few and far between. The executive team is extremely disconnected from the realities of the people who do the work. This is common at a lot of companies, but it felt extra apparent at Thesis which was demoralizing when major restructures and decisions were made. New strict in office policy shows lack of respect for the loyal and talented employees who require remote flexibility and have worked at the company for many years.
Pros
One of the best things about working at Thesis is the people. These individuals are some of the smartest, most motivated and talented people I've ever worked with. If any designer is underwater or needing help there's no shortage of volunteers to step in and lend a hand. The company is growing really quickly and leadership really is trying to put good processes in place as well as prioritizing affinity groups (LGBTQA+, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Working Mothers, etc) and taking a stance in the community. 75% of the time everyone gets to go home at 5pm and be done for the day, so work/life balance is pretty good.
Cons
The company has grown really, really quickly over the course of my time here and is going through normal growing pains. Finessing processes, creating room for everyone, assessing how many people are needed to be efficient and avoid burnout. This has happened at all 3 agencies I've worked at and it's always difficult, but Thesis is taking all the right steps to make sure we navigate the change in a way that will impact everyone in a good way. It just takes time.
Pros
Evolving as a company in Leadership (now woman led/CEO) and they care about their employees
Cons
Technically I know I can get paid more for what I do, and the hours can be long; stressful job. That’s agency life. I’d like more work life balance. No bonuses so it’s hard to put in so much extra work but have no reward or extra pay for it with my salaried position.
Pros
Work/life balance and working remotely. There are also some nice people I enjoy seeing during our meetings. Seems to be a decent place to have kids at, with all the new moms and dads.
Cons
Depending on what team you are on, there's a very high chance you are doing mostly only repetitive repetative repetative uninspired work. The talented ones tend to leave. Not enough PTO for creatives. Most managers/leads aren't senior enough. Favoritism takes precedence over expertise and contributions when promotions and raises come into play. And then there's the gaslighting at all-staff meetings- of which sitting through is by far the most difficult part of the job.
Pros
Loved the people I worked with daily. Work life balance experience was great, though I know folks in other departments who would not say the same.
Cons
-Despite the agency's claims of inclusivity and equity, there exists a significant pay disparity, and the individuals responsible for promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion are limited in their focus. If you identify as a person with a disability or as gender diverse, I would advise against working here unless you are willing to invest significant effort in effecting change - good luck with that.
Pros
I have been working at Thesis for about a year and have overall had a really great experience. There is a lot of opportunity for both personal and professional growth, developing skills, and I feel fully supported by my manager and team. That said, Thesis has not been immune to the ups and downs that come with agency life and has experienced some shifts in the past year due to changing client needs, rapid growth, and post-pandemic life. For those who have been impacted by any of the shifts, I think it can be understandably easy to point fingers and dismiss all the good things that the agency has to offer. I truly feel that our leadership team is actively working to address any issues and has been great about communicating the steps they are taking to make progress towards a bright future. The best leaders take ownership when things don’t go as planned and take direct action to course correct, and that’s exactly what’s being done here. Having worked at other agencies, the biggest draw to Thesis for me was the commitment to DEI and having work life balance, both of which I feel and see the commitment to every day. If you’re looking for a company that has a lot of opportunity and puts in the work to create a positive experience for all employees (and has some of the best coworkers you’ll ever meet), Thesis is for you.
Cons
Working at an agency can have it's ups and downs based on uncontrollable client needs.
Pros
As someone who has been with Thesis for a few years now, and after reading some of the most horrible things from some people. Especially current employees. I thought I would share some of my experiences and thoughts. Perhaps to bring some humanity, empathy, and reality to this page. Firstly, I completely understand the struggles that the pandemic has brought upon us all. But I want to share that. Many of our senior leaders are parents, and they also all had to deal with the added responsibilities and stresses that come with balancing work and home life during covid. Despite these challenges, our senior leaders continued to work together and support their teams in order to keep the business moving forward. Thesis did not stop, business kept coming in, and we had new people announcements weekly. Teams grew, and people were great with it! Now let's acknowledge the social, political, and economic unrest that has affected us all. It has been a challenging time, but I am proud of how resilient and dedicated our team, including our senior leadership, has been. Despite the difficulties we have faced, they have continued to show up, be transparent about things and continue to run the business. Yes we had lay offs, but so have many other agencies and companies in Oregon. During the pandemic tech, and digital companies ballooned. Today there are websites dedicated to companies who have laid people off. Why is Thesis horrible because we did. We are not. And neither are our leaders. Its economics. Everything is great until leadership is needed. Glassdoor is silent until leaders take action to make the business continue to move forward. Because let's be honest when do we leave a yelp review for how amazing your dinner was? I'm guessing not very frequently. But we are quick to leave a scathing review when the service is not up to par, or because the food was cold. Is Glassdoor much different? Regarding the benefits of our company. As an anecdote. My partner works at a prominent employer in the state of Oregon, and they have great benefits. Especially the medical, dental, and vision. When I put the Thesis benefits next to my partners the benefits are highly comparable. Especially the medical, dental, and vision! In addition, Thesis offers PTO, VTO, a fund for continuing education, a first-time home buying fund! I mean the list goes on. One benefit hits home. Today if an employee or partner experiences a miscarriage, you can take some paid time to mourn the loss. Before this benefit was implemented. My partner and I went through a miscarriage, which was an incredibly difficult time for both of us. Yes, it was during the pandemic. I shared this with my boss who is on senior leadership and the first thing they said was. “I'm here for you, thesis is here for you. Take the time you need.” The next day Keely, our CEO, went out of their way and sent a large flower arrangement to our house; she hand-wrote a note offering support during this challenging time. That makes me cringe in joy. And even though time passed. I still am moved by how Keely was there for my family. Finally, there is no perfect company; all staff meeting, announcements, or ways to have maneuvered through these last few years. However, I believe Thesis ( yes imperfect) is doing things right when it comes to running a business and taking care of its employees. Prioritizes work-life balance, already covered benefits and perks. Oh AND values diversity and inclusion. In fact, In all staff, we learned that we had reached 41% BIPOC and over 60% women. I can't think of another company in Oregon that can say that. When I first started at thesis the number that was shared was 27% BIPOC. Yes. Thesis still has work to do, and I think our senior leaders are well aware of it.
Cons
Well, we get a mac computer, mouse, keyboard when we start. I guess that's ok. We get a good portion of our cell phone and internet reimbursed. I guess that's ok too. There are snacks in the office. Alright, I guess. We get to work from home, or we can go into the office. Tough choice sometimes. One thing that can be better is compensation. But in all staff they announced some new changes coming to that. Nice!
Pros
- Great communication across teams. - The company is open to learning and has always been transparent with their thinking and doing. - Great benefits and it feels like they are always trying to add more. - Good work/life balance. - Growing fast.
Cons
- Lots of turnover (but what company isn't suffering through this?)
Pros
Like many agencies, Thesis has experienced its share of challenges over the past few years, particularly with industry-wide trends like client-driven turnover. That said, the company has taken meaningful steps to address past concerns. Leadership has evolved, with experienced hires bringing fresh perspectives, and there's noticeable momentum in business development—securing clients that were previously out of reach. While the organization has undergone significant change and expectations have shifted, for those accustomed to the agency world, these adjustments feel reasonable. Flexibility and work-life balance remain strong, making it a solid place to work.
Cons
There aren’t many real downsides, but for those who live farther from the office, the new hybrid schedule could be a challenge with commute times.
