Pros

Flexible hours if you can find coverage Lots of opportunities for overtime (they can't punish you for saying no) Get 35+ hours of work done in 3 days If you have half a brain and motivated coworkers it's easy Connecting with residents will give you a sense of purpose- even if it's just getting them a meal or new socks. Not everyone will like you and that's OK. Don't take it personally. Homemaker skills highly valued Quitting and being re-hired very common Current rate of pay in 2023 17.50/hr

Cons

Can easily work yourself into burnout Days off will be plagued with requests to cover (you can say no) 17+ hour days are common, especially at higher positions Position combines skill sets of nurse, janitor, counselor, taxi, chef, homemaker, and more. On top of this, prepare to learn how to fill out 50 types of paperwork and arbitrary rules that haven't made sense since 1990 Occasionally unreliable staff can make life miserable (getting 'stuck' in shift or on the job emergencies)
