Underpaid and unforgiving sales culture.

Pros

You will be selling an excellent product at a fast-growing company and there is also a lot of great senior leadership at the C level.

Cons

Snowflake has a cutthroat sales culture that is very difficult to survive in. There are a lot of salespeople and your success will largely depend on the account list you inherit. The golden age to join Snowflake was between 2016 and 2019. It gets more and more difficult to get promoted now and you most likely will be working for someone who succeeded in a much bigger territory with a much easier number to hit. In some cases, some of the leadership doesn't have a damn clue how to sell Snowflake. Nowadays most reps come closer to 50% of quota AT BEST through upselling existing customers that they were lucky enough to inherit. The reality is that you will not be getting paid enough to assume the amount of stress you will take on to hit your number at Snowflake.

Pros

Great product. Great Engineering Team and lots of smart technical folks and founders. You will learn a lot. However, be ready to deal with hidden agendas and rampant politics that is totally unusual for a company this size.

Cons

Sales Environment is horrible. Greedy sales team that cannot be trusted. Sales executives and Sales Senior management are after their own self-interest and selfish career goals. They do not care about the people or what happens to them. in Sales they have formed what can be termed as 'the clan'. If you are not part of the clan that comes from the same sales team that previously worked together at an Enterprise company in the Bay Area, you would be part of the black sheep group of the sales family. 'The clan' gets the recognition, promotion and the black sheep group is left behind. You have to be careful with other organizations at Snowflake as well as I am starting to see this phenomenon of not being recognized if you are not on someone's favorite list and lots of politics as the company is growing.

Pros

Great product. Customers love the product and it truly is disrupting Enterprise Data Warehousing. Good CEO with solid intentions and desired company values.

Cons

The unicorn status and huge rounds of funding has led to the influx of big company executives and they’re bringing in ‘their people’ — irrespective of role or job suitability. The company has gone from under 200 employees to almost 1,000 in less than 2 years. Tremendous growth and culture scaling challenges ensuing. Good people are suddenly let go while random roles are created and being hired without much process. Managers need training— there is a sub-culture of sarcastic humor, disrespectful toxicity and putting people down in certain groups.
