A bad joke

Pros

Great office location downtown. Amenities like food and drink, gym membership, the normal stuff you’d expect at a tech company in Austin.

Cons

Marc (CEO) is just about the worst person to be leading a company. He does not care about his staff, is incredibly cheap, and loves the fact that he can fire people like he always wanted to in Germany but couldn’t. It’s funny, I’ve spoken to several execs in Austin that have met/worked with him and almost every one of them said something negative about their experience with him. Also, who buys from mobile apps if it’s not Amazon? Really think about it for a second. Most customers are not successful on our platform. It’s a nice to have. We’re losing clients like crazy and reviews about us are terrible. Stay away, most companies in Austin that know Shopgate know that it’s a bad joke. Side note: the company routinely asks employees to post good reviews of the work environment on Glassdoor, Built In Austin, Best Places to Work, and so forth and then spiffs people for doing so. I would know, I’ve posted a “good” review on here because I was asked to. Be careful what you trust.

Unprofessional Frat House

Pros

The company has a lot of potential if they would hire more mature people who actually had better work ethics and actually showed up to work, and hired a development team in the US to keep up with the advancement of technology.

Cons

The Downtown Austin office is nothing more than a frat house that does not have a good work/life balance conducive to meeting business goals. There is a huge lack of training and communication that leads to bringing in false sales that never get onboarded. The company is full of a bunch of young, unprofessional individuals who would rather take advantage of all the perks of the job and not actually work, when they actually do show up for work. But of course that doesn't matter because there is no HR to assist with issues happening around the office. Also notice how for ever 1 negative company review on Glassdoor, there are 5 more positive reviews to follow... management has staff write multiple reviews using different personas to drown out any negativity.

Pros

Sick commissions, if you can break the sales code to success, which currently only one guy can achieve. Nice benefits IF you survive the first thirty days. Kegs occasionally, no policy vacation and sick policy, even though you can get fired for utilizing the policy. Nice coworkers, and cool setup. Other than that, a dumpster fire raging outta control.

Cons

Reminds me of the Cleveland Browns organization. Sooooooo many chances at good talent, but due to bad ownership, can NEVER execute a good plan. They fire their VP of Sales/ Extraordinary trainer while he is building culture, and then start letting go of record setting reps and folks that could actually PROGRESS the company. Great vision from the founder, marred by horrible choices for managers. Even heard they're gonna close down the Tempe location due to lack of production...

Thank you for your review. While we wish your experience was more positive, we can understand your frustrations. However, we believe you are misrepresenting many things about our Company, including the precipitation and need for organizational changes on many levels. We believe we communicated these changes to the company very clearly, showing great transparency, and wish you would have expressed these opinions with us before your departure so we could have explained our need for organizational change more clearly. A couple of points to recognize: Our commission is extremely generous and rewards representatives on many tiers. We are working diligently to expand our training so that all representatives can reach the extreme success that others have had. This takes time to build, and we are in the process of getting this up and running while hiring at a tremendous pace. Second, all Sales Representives/LDRs do come in under the pretense of a sixty day probation period, as is communicated in the verbal offer and in the official paperwork. We understand this is not for everyone, but are very upfront about this at the beginning of the recruiting process. We understand that your experience at Shopgate was not the most ideal, and we apologize for that. However, we greatly appreciate your feedback as we continue to build and grow our Company culture!
