Bad for software developers

Pros

Small company with great co-workers at the lower levels. Fairly relaxed work hours for high-tech. Some interesting projects.

Cons

Upper managements cares very little for workers, comparing software developers to cogs in the machine who do little but copy and paste. People get fired for little to no valid reason. I've seen this company actually break people. Software development can be very interesting, but can also be very dreary, with a lot of reuse of bad code.

A place where innovative ideas go to die.

Pros

if you are in the right role, there are some great travel opportunities to tradeshows in Las Vegas (NAC) and Amsterdam (IBC).

Cons

Ross Video has irresponsible hiring practices as they do mass hiring for big projects, only to do layoffs six months later. There is a massive divide between new employees and those who have been there for more that 15 years - the lifers. Anyone with new ideas gets quickly pushed out the door as management preferred to "do things they way they've always been done, the John Ross way." This is unfortunate as David Ross, who now runs the company, has some great ideas to make the company a real powerhouse that will never be realized until he takes the reins from his senior management team and start acting like a leader, or step out of the role and hire someone who can lead.

Pros

Kind of stable although 2-5% lay off each year (GE model). Pay is average and nothing extra. Decade ago had better employer incentives but as it grew the top management kept more and left less for those below!

Cons

Lots of agendas and different groups being acquired in short period of time that want to solidify their position in the company causing conflicts (growing pain I guess).

Hmm. This review is extremely inaccurate in several ways. We don’t follow the GE model and absolutely don’t have a big layoff every year. We have reorganized a few times in the last decade for different reasons, but that’s not the same thing at all. Where this reviewer got information about top management pay outstripping and taking away from the rest of the company I have no idea, but it’s wildly untrue. On top of that, I personally intentionally live a very modest lifestyle, live in a 2500 sq ft house and own a Mazda at home. All the profits go back into Ross and have for 43 years. That’s a big part of our success. Let’s try not to make things up and then post them publicly please. Thanks, David Ross
