Pros

For those interested in such: *Hands-on experience in the environmental field, particularly with equipment and hazardous materials. *Use of mapping software. *Opportunity to learn about regulations and standards within the environmental industry.

Cons

*The office location required long commutes, leading to extended workdays. *The office itself was outdated and poorly maintained, creating an unappealing work environment. *Constant turnover and frequent management changes caused instability, leaving fewer employees to handle more responsibilities. Employees frequently burn out or leave for better opportunities. *Employee health issues weren’t properly addressed, and support and resources were lacking. *New employees were quickly assigned tasks outside of their department, often with little guidance. *The company kept low-paying, difficult clients, which led to unrealistic expectations and constant changes. *Starting salaries for entry-level is $40,000-$45,000 per year - Not a living wage!! A livable wage in Philadelphia for a single adult is around $23.26 per hour (The Living Wage Calculator, 2025). *Employees were underpaid and their efforts went unappreciated *Non-paid overtime was expected, often becoming a regular part of the job. *Frequent exposure to hazardous materials and contaminated sites.

Pros

Exposure to a variety of projects and clients Opportunities to develop technical skills Some colleagues and management staff were supportive and collaborative

Cons

Constantly changing management and ongoing restructuring created instability Lack of trust between management and employees Poor handling of employee health issues; significant delays in allowing necessary medical leave Insufficient support and resources for professional growth High turnover rate contributing to a stressful work environment Strange onboarding process; I was given a phone and laptop set up for an older employee without the data wiped, forcing me to use personal accounts for basic communication No real shadowing period or introduction to colleagues; I was immediately put to work Inadequate training due to absent or ineffective project managers Frequently left off important project email chains until the last possible moment Taken off my own projects to work on others without any personal benefit Strange infighting between senior management and constant discussions about previous employees Inappropriate conversations between senior and junior staff Poor internal communication Non-paid overtime is constant Fairly dangerous neighborhood No lunch breaks provided Unsanitary conditions; the restrooms were frequently left in unacceptable states
