Indifferent to Employee Conditions
Pros
Small size. Walking distance to nearby park and trails. Close enough to Lemont to get lunch there on-foot. Kind and engaging coworkers. Maintains compliance with overtime pay requirements.
Cons
Developers aren't paid in-line with their work. (Possible compensation discrimination) Developers double as customer support and system admins. Limited development experience/ability. Those with lots of experience are there for maintenance rolls on very old systems. Little to no mentorship capacity. The lead developer was constantly stretched too thin, especially on work that should have been automated out or done by someone else. Constant looming deadlines, therefore technical debt and awful quality of life for developers. Mass printing and processing on-site, adjacent to cubicles of developers, therefore noise and distraction, especially during tax season. Poor air quality and mold. Illegal policy prohibiting discussion of salary.
