Pros

- Wide variety of backgrounds for all team members, whether it be modding or from the industry, and any experience level.

Cons

- Some high level members of management have no definition of personal life, and will try to control yours to their advantage through manipulation. You will have to make a lot of yours socials private to get it to stop. You will be asked to cut ties with friends if they are deemed a "negative" influence, and avoid "weird" relationships. This is disrespectful to the highest degree. - All around permanent crunch, there is no stop to the stress train as "applying the right amount of pressure" will apparently make the team work better. You will be asked to work weekends, and if not directly, be guilt-tripped into it. - Work hours are not a thing, so be ready to be contacted at any time. Personally, I loved the absurd amount of messages I'd get at 4 am. - Impossible to get a fast response, you will wait multiple days or weeks, and sometimes even more, to get an answer to anything, even if it's important. Work will be slowed down by it. - Poor organisation of the project, tasks are put on hold randomly, regardless of priority, and you will be moved left and right constantly, preventing you from accomplishing anything useful. And you will then be asked about why the work isn't completed. - Double standard between management and employees, where management will not follow their own rules, but will immediately call employees out on them. - A very toxic environment, where management will denigrate current and past employees, and sometimes even publicly in blogs. Even though this was "handled" publicly, no change was done internally. - Your work will very likely be removed/replaced if you ever leave the team, as it will suddenly become the root of all of the game's issues. - Massive discrepancies between the salaries of every employee, even at the same department or level. Make sure to discuss it with each other, as you will likely discover some interesting issues with being underpaid. - Management will discuss plans going forward for any part of the project with the team, and then suddenly change their mind without notifying any team member. You will just find out what you're doing is incorrect. While they have improved on that part, it still occurs frequently. - No clear onboarding/exit procedures. You will somewhat be thrown into the deep waters of the project and expected to start working with minimal help, depending on the department. Leaving is a little more straightforward, assuming you don't need much or didn't have a lot of responsibilities with confidential information.

Great studio handicapped by terrible leadership

Pros

- Very talented team - Team is genuinely passionate about & invested in the project as a whole - Flexible work hours

Cons

- Critical information is withheld from the team until the community finds out. Leadership constantly flip flops between keeping deadlines hidden & posting them publicly - Unnecessary, stressful crunch for arbitrary goals that do not contribute to the project in a meaningful way. This is a byproduct of mismanagement and an overwhelming unwillingness to take/accept constructive feedback. Most of the time, management works on unrelated prototypes/get distracted by facets of the project that (ironically) contribute nothing to the goals team members are pressured to crunch for. - Leadership has their head in the clouds and they are not fit for their positions. There is no formula for the way tasks are delegated or handled, and the one-sided accountability alienates the team while refusing to take the blame themselves--it's always someone else's fault. - Leadership discourages communication between themselves and the rest of the team by simply not responding or ignoring messages, even when they're time sensitive or require feedback for the progression of the project. - There is no communication between departments -- again, leadership does not seem to value transparency or communication, even when it's vital to the progression of the project. - Leadership gossiping. They placed blame on past team members publicly, very rarely making an attempt to conceal their identities. This juvenile behavior was put on gross display for the community. If you tried to bring it up as a current team member, it was brushed off. - CEO makes the rules, but won't play by them. He seems to think he's immune and his lack of attention, time management, and sensitivity makes working under him that much worse. It's difficult to stay focused and positive when his behavior actively discourages it.

Work literally anywhere else

Pros

Fellow team members were quite kind, talented, and respectful.

Cons

Where to begin. During my brief time at QI, I received little to no feedback, positive, negative, or otherwise. There was absolutely no communication on expectations of the role, and structure was entirely non-existent. Only feedback I did recieve was vague and positive, with no substance from the incredibly incompetent leadership. Deadlines would be created, changed, or removed on a whim for any given aspect of the project. Delegation of work load was horribly mismanaged. No clear boundaries regarding projects and what was to be done by who. COVID health and safety guidelines were routinely ignored and unenforced. Management and CEO would routinely bring up past employees, current employees, and people tangentially involved with the company in a weird negative light that was completely unprofessional. Found little to no strong boundaries between personal and professional lives. Half con regarding work schedule. Hours were incredibly open and freeform, which was good in some ways (being able to come in slightly later to work), but bad in others. Was asked to work weekends, and management routinely worked incredibly odd hours which made working difficult. Management was quite inconsiderate and downright rude and insulting regarding specific workplace issues that got brought up. Will emphasize again that management and CEO are incredibly inexperienced, and it is abundantly clear that this was their first time in any sort of leadership position. There was no clear policy or support regarding diversity and an inclusive work environment. No explicit issues with racism or sexism, but the company is overwhelmingly male dominated, and it is reflective in the work environment. Management have no personal life, and interpersonal relationships between myself and others outside of the company routinely were brought up at work. Management routinely attempted to involve themselves (quite strangely) in my personal life and relationships to an incredibly problematic degree. It was disrespectful and I felt my privacy was constantly invaded. I could go on, but a lot of what I would say is echoing the experiences of other negative reviews on this site. I would actively recommend against working for this company. You would be doing yourself a favor working literally anywhere else.
