Pros

I joined the company with high hopes for its progressive work culture and emphasis on work-life balance.

Cons

Unfortunately, the new directive requiring employees to be in the office twice a week feels like a step backward. It disregards the changing landscape of remote work and the proven benefits it offers in terms of productivity and employee satisfaction. Moreover, the CEO's statement about it being "easy to find valuable employees" is disheartening. It implies that the company is willing to dismiss the concerns and well-being of its dedicated workforce, suggesting that employee satisfaction is not a priority. This attitude undermines the sense of camaraderie and loyalty that we had towards the company. While the option to leave might be available, it's disappointing to see a lack of consideration for the diverse needs and preferences of the employees who have contributed to the company's success. A more thoughtful approach that balances the company's goals with the well-being of its employees would have been appreciated. In conclusion, this sudden shift in work policy and the dismissive attitude towards employee concerns have left many of us questioning the company's commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. I hope the leadership reconsiders its decision and takes into account the valuable input of its dedicated workforce

Thanks for the post and for sharing your reaction to our updated flex policy providing three days of week for you to choose where you work and requiring folks to be in the office two days a week. As we showed during the CEO Update where this was discussed, the majority of companies, like us, have realized a hybrid approach will be the best of both worlds - the ability for folks to continue to have choice over where they work the majority of days, but also provide the camaraderie of working together and enhanced opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and development that come with in-office work. Given your tenure, you may not have been with us much before the pandemic so may not be valuing the in-office component as much as we do. We believe that once you experience it, you will see the benefits it provides. Your review may leave readers under the impression that we had a full remote policy before this announcement, so it is important to note that we did not. We have consistently reinforced the role that our offices play in maintaining and evolving our culture. We have consistently hired near our offices with very few exceptions (for very hard to fill roles). Finally, in reviewing the entire transcript from the CEO Update, it is important to note that Brett (our CEO) did not say it was “easy to find valuable employees.” Two statements are conflated here. One was when he reinforced that all employees were valuable, and acknowledged that some may unfortunately choose to leave if they are dead set on a fully remote job. The second was when asked “is there any concern that we will miss out on high qualified job candidates due to our updated policy” and he said that no, we are not experiencing any trouble attracting highly qualified talent. I hope you find that once you get through the change of daily routine and are coming in a couple of days a week, you do enjoy the opportunities it affords.

Pros

Great team to work with, work is enjoyable and engaging, software stack is well-organized, and infrastructure runs smoothly; I can focus on what I need to get done. Flexible managers

Cons

I had basically no cons until this past month, when the CEO and c-suite decided on a very strict, rushed, poorly thought out Return to Office policy. 2 days in, for everyone, no exceptions. I was hired as remote and live 2 hours from the office. There are others I know who live over 3 hours away and are being told to commute or move, or be let go. Me and my team have delivered good work ahead of schedule since I started, but are now being asked to waste hours a week for no good reason. Very good chance that many good employees, myself included, will not last another year and what was otherwise my favorite place to work so far.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on our updated flexible work policy, which requires employees to be in the office two days a week. We understand this change has been an adjustment, especially for employees who became accustomed to working remotely during the pandemic. Our decision was driven by several considerations including enhanced collaboration and communication, to reignite and enhance our company culture, and to provide more networking and development opportunities for all colleagues. We also want to clarify that we did not have a full remote policy before this announcement; we have consistently hired individuals within commutable distance from our offices with the expectation that employees would return to the office once it was safe to do so. As we move to the new NYC office in the Empire State Building, we will be sharing with our sister brands, hence the need for the desk reservation system, and you unfortunately will not have your own workstation. Speak with your Manager or HR Business Partner if you have specific concerns, and ways in which we can support you in the transition back to the office.
