Pros

Great people, paper and location

Cons

The two owners at the time had no newspaper experience and therefore made some unbelievable decisions that cost a lot of people including myself to be laid off.

Pros

Good, authentic people work in the trenches. One of the funnest geographic areas to cover in the country. Covers a very wealthy area that includes Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm and a large of array of unique personalities with unique hobbies and interests that make for great storytelling. Great equipment pool for photojournalists.

Cons

Editors have their favorites. No system to mentor newer photojournalists. At the time I was there they were swung back and forth from focus on print to focus on new media. Probably should've focused on new media. Community journalists have a hard time getting noticed and exposure. Photojournalist have about 4 different bosses on any given assignment and no one fighting for their concerns. Not much leadership in the photo department. Had to work "piece work" (overtime, if available) to make ends meet in OC. Most journalist required to commute from LA county because they couldn't afford to live in county.
