Great vision, subpar execution

Pros

Although most of them already gone or on their way out, there are some real talents in science and R&D. The company survives on hard work from folks in Shanghai and Dehli. Great people on the business side as well, but mostly at below manager level.

Cons

Though packaged as a technology/solution company, Opera is still mostly run as an old school consulting firm, i.e. sales eat what they kill, fight for resources, and lots of internal politics. The incentive and organizational structure aren't set up for focused execution. Former CEO never showed a clear conviction to build a great long-term company. Always shooting for a good next few quarters, and we are all gonna be rich! With this kind of mentality, things like developing your people and building a company culture naturally take a back seat to making a quick buck. Real successful companies rarely talk about IPO before actual IPO! There is a clear disconnection and distrust between analytics and business. With most of the good EMs and above already gone, those that are left are mostly overpaid talking heads who have zero understanding of analytics or technology.

As bad as it gets!

Pros

Some good people - few and far between. When free friday lunch is the best thing about a company the writing is on the wall.

Cons

The most political organization - and it doesn't even have 500 people! Everything is driven by whether or not you are in the good books of some select leaders. Unfortunately getting in their good books is dependent least on merit and most on how you politically handle yourself. Leadership decisions and opinions often made on hearsay not facts. Rampant favoritism. Senior US leadership is extremely untrustworthy and incompetent. Also they are really struggling with their business model and product, have seen no traction in more than a year - zero new projects. Company can wrap up or be sold anytime. Oh and did I say - they pay significantly under market compensation.

Pros

People say that you will get a chance to work with talented people but the irony is if they are talented they would not stay back in opera. People are staying back because of family reasons and personal reasons . Not because of working conditions

Cons

Not even enough money to pay bonus on time. No work life balance. ( When i say 'No work life balance'. Its absolute Zero Upper level management are very bad at decisions. Projects are focused on internal tools and it is very difficult to come out of company as you will lack general Skills which you will need to progress in career.
