Great Company Run Into The Ground By New CEO

Pros

All the Pros went out the door when Matt Schatzman orchestrated a coup to seize the CEO position from the company's founder and longtime CEO. Used to be 9am-5pm with a great location in The Woodlands, and a great work environment with smart, talented people working together for the best interests of the company. Matt Schatzman increased the hours to 8am-5pm, moved the company to downtown, and created a toxic work environment filled with self-centered, incompetent cronies. The only real positive is that the new office space is nice but the long commute to downtown is not worth a better view.

Cons

The toxic work environment has been devastating. New CEO Schatzman always has a fall-guy if things don't work out but takes credit for everyone else's successes with no acknowledgement for others' hard work. The turnover is incredibly high as Schatzman has fired, laid off or forced out just about all the competent employees including every one from the receptionist to the lawyers and finance people and all the way to the former Chief Operating Officer and the company's founder, Kathleen Eisbrenner. He only interacts with his inner circle and people walk around terrified that they will upset him and become the next casualty. A common refrain is at Schatzman is everyone's boss but nobody's colleague. He is truly hated within the company and is driving the company to destruction. The General Counsel is also a snake that can't be trusted and is only interested in her own self-promotion. Overall, there are no winners at NextDecade, only losers thanks to Schatzman's shoddy leadership and abrasive dictatorial management style. Compensation is below average compared to other industry competitors and the outlook for long term success is bleak at best. There is no 401k matching, and the health benefits are skimpy and expensive. There is basically no opportunity for promotion or advancement and the company will probably be out of business in the next 1-2 years.

Pros

Used to be a great company filled with talented, genuine people UNTIL new "CEO" Matt Schatzman took over in early 2018, totally destroying the culture and running every department into the ground. Basis of the Rio Grande LNG project is very strong, but mismanagement may prevent it from coming to fruition.

Cons

Toxic work environment, terrible (and/or non-existent) management, high turnover (voluntary and involuntary), poor compensation relative to peers, incompetent HR, highly clichey and executives who will back stab anyone to make as much money as possible. "CEO", CFO and General Counsel need to be replaced if they have any chance of saving once great organization. Stay away from this sinking ship.

Pros

The coworkers are good and the team works together

Cons

The leadership of the company has run it into the ground. Matt, Ben, and the rest only care about themselves and don't have what it takes to lead the organization.
