Pros

Remote Position A number of people have been there a while, so generally finding things is as simple as asking someone. There are a number of really good people who work here. The open source product is well documented. and there's an open source community behind parts of it which I think is a good thing. A decent amount of automation has been introduced into the processes that are regularly performed, and documentation of this has greatly improved compared to when I started.

Cons

Prior to six months ago, I would say the biggest con was the lack of internal documentation on processes. This has improved slightly since I started, however, the internal communication platform should not be used as a source of documentation truth. That should be the documentation section of the knowledge base. In addition for about a year out of my 2 year tenure there I was the only person in my position. Multiple management changes resulted in the priority of back-filling the position shifted multiple times resulting in extreme burnout for me personally. New team members should be prepared to verify details proactively and double-check documentation with a person who has been there for at least six months, as some materials are outdated or incomplete. The real issues started about six months ago when I got a new manager. For the first 2 months I gave them the benefit of the doubt as being a new manager to an existing team can be a little disorienting. That said, my experience working under this new manager was challenging to say the least. This was due to vague communication with hidden expectations combined with a lack of direction. Urgent tasks were often presented alongside unrelated priorities without clear distinction combined with day-to-day micromanagement. This made it difficult to work effectively. Important scheduling details such as maintenance windows or meeting times were changed multiple times while team members were out and then were not communicated directly, leading to avoidable misunderstandings. Follow-through on expectations was inconsistent, and key information was regularly buried resulting in additional time and effort to find information that should have been clearly outlined by said manager. To put it bluntly, this is the first time in 4 months that I've woken up without a sense of dread, wondering how far the goal post is going to move. Edit: One more thing that I forgot to mention in my original review, I moved during my employment, and they forgot to change which state they paid income tax to. Additionally, it appears that they do not respond to unemployment offices related to wages, so be prepared to fax or mail in your W2 / Pay stubs to your corresponding unemployment office. This is particularly important as just after a giant conference where they brought in as many employees as they could, they laid off 5% of the company. I was unable to attend this meeting due to the lack of work life balance achieved under my old manager as he said it was 'not important' . Similarly, I was unable to attend the announcement of the new CEO for the company for the same reason. I would advise any future employees that you will want to have written communication about things you are missing due to conflicts in your schedule.
