Pros

Salary was good (I negotiated at hiring) My team was great; I was lucky to be on a team of skilled and empathetic professionals.

Cons

I have never worked anywhere else where the morale was so consistently low. Do you love being depressed and listening to your coworkers complain about how miserable they are? Do you fear technology and prefer to do things the hard way? If not, do yourself a favor and give this place a HARD PASS. You might get lucky and work in one of the few teams that are sane and productive. If not, you will spin your wheels until you burn out or give up. It's got a great mission, but it's such a flawed workplace that it doesn't come place to living out its core values. HR at NASW treats employees horribly while ignoring ongoing complaints of bullying by managers (who get paid 6 figures). During my time there, I saw furloughs, layoffs, downsizing of the physical space, and a never-ending atrophying of the member base. Don't even think about jumping aboard this sinking ship!

Pros

- health, vision, dental insurance - 401k

Cons

- lacks an ethical spine. loves to praise themselves as a progressive organization but don't show up or speak up when it actually matters. presents themselves as DEl focused but cannot call out a genocide. - overworked, underpaid, under-appreciated. how can NASW say all this talk about empowering social workers and demanding better pay for social workers when NASW underpays their employees and interns. i essentially was a one-person department getting the pay of 1 position - leadership is unprofessional, authoritative, hostile, condescending, rude, disrespectful, unethical (performs -isms and -ics). toxic, immature, and abusive. creates an unsafe workplace where boundaries are disrespected, there is no space for collaboration and open communication, and employees are seen as insubordinate if they raise valid concerns and questions to leadership/executive team - NASW experience severely and negatively impacted my mental, physical, and emotional health
