Few really caring people...lots of politics, no real “diversity”

Pros

I’ve worked with some truly caring individuals that work directly with the community and that gives me hope. There are staff that goes above and beyond in everything that they do, regardless if they get recognized for it or not.

Cons

No real diversity or inclusion. It’s a joke. There’s “plans” and “discussions” of it but no real action. Middle management and director leaders have no communication skills, will not say hi to you if you have nothing to offer them. Full of nepotism and Politics. Very hard to advance, no employee growth. Many microagressions with poor HR relations to tend to grievances. Difficult to talk to managers about problems when they are not hired for the right reasons, if you move up easily it’s about who you know. Discriminated against and are retaliated against if seen talking against something that you feel are microagressions. No accountability for leaders, hurtful staff, and ghosting of union when they are needed. Workload is insane and no support given, staff is overworked and underpaid.

We appreciate you taking the time to recognize some of the great staff you worked with as well as voice your concerns about your experiences with management at the County. In January 2019, the county adopted its first countywide Workforce Equity Strategic Plan. This plan creates new accountability around the ways in which we recruit, retain and develop our workforce and emphasizes a heightened expectation of leadership. We are also in the process of building a Leadership Development and Accountability Program and we'd love to hear more about your experience. If you are receptive to sharing more, please email central.human.resources@multco.us.

Pros

- Good place to start a career and learn about government - Multnomah has a great internal training program - The experience looks good in your resume when looking for jobs

Cons

- Not a good place to settle - Nepotism and favoritism plays a role when moving up - Incompetent managers makes you feel more intelligent, but you will be making as little money compared to them - Too many managers on top level then actual employees which makes it hard to do the job - Don't value employee concerns

Pros

Good pay and benefits, some good people.

Cons

Very political/social environment, lots of favoritism and nepotism. Union organization is a joke where hiring/support is concerned. If they like you on a strictly personal level, regardless of work performance, you will succeed. If you look to be rewarded for hard work or good work ethics, not the place to be.
