Pros

People are friendly, and the dress code is pretty relaxed. Free Monthly lunch with the boss. Celebrations and free food on special events/holidays, and usually cake for birthdays (although that varies per department). The HR department is really wonderful. Good job security, no one gets fired due to downsizing or to cut costs.

Cons

There's a lot to say. First, the pay is not very good unless you're a software developer or a department manager/director. You get a yearly raise that's supposed to be based on your performance, but your performance actually doesn't have much to do with it; it depends on how much the manager likes you (I know that sounds cynical, but it really is true). MotionPoint is generally not a good place to advance your career if you're in IT. Most of what you learn is proprietary or it uses outdated technology. Your career WILL stagnate at MotionPoint if you're in IT, so don't stay longer than 1-2 years. If you're a MotionPoint-employed Web Engineer and reading this, you need to get out! You're not growing and you're underpaid (and you know it's true). The company stopped growing a few years ago, so there are minimal growth opportunities. People do get "promoted", but that's only a title change. Based on my experience, promotions never come with a raise (internally, we call this a "Motion Promotion" as a joke). Some of the managers/directors are great at their job, but others lack the required experience and knowledge needed for their roles. I'm talking about Directors who make technology and development related decisions, without having technology and development experience. They'll disregard the advice of knowledgeable employees, and show obvious favoritism towards the employees that they are on very friendly terms with. Most newly hired people are referrals. MotionPoint has a very nice 2500 dollar referral bonus if you refer someone and they're hired. Sadly, this is another area where you see favoritism. The favoritism becomes very noticeable when you see the same person getting their referrals hired over and over again. It's well known among existing employees what's going on. There are many more things I can say, but I'll end with this: the parking situation is an absolute nightmare. Be prepared to have to park behind the building (there is no parking lot, it's just pavement), where someone will have to park behind you, and then you're trapped until you can find them and ask them to move their car. Also be prepared to be asked to move your car if you got in early and parked in the front, because a client is coming and they want a space available for them.

Thanks very much for your constructive feedback. In response, it may be helpful to reiterate that our goal at MotionPoint is to create a collaborative and innovative environment where we’re each evaluated both according to our individual accomplishments as well as our contributions to the success of the team. Your feedback on some of the proprietary tools we’ve developed over the years to do our work is well-taken. As you may have heard, we recently migrated to a leading packaged email solution and are in the process of doing the same with our CRM, instant messaging and other productivity tools. --Human Resources

Pros

Friendly environment, for the most part. Some holiday lunches, alcohol included, and watch special events on TV, mostly sports.

Cons

"Special relationship" no one talks about or are afraid to bring up for fear of retaliation or just no one wants to be the one to call it out. But little does anyone know this is slowly bringing down the dept to the point where the good ones go and the ones that stay are just there for fear they cant get a better job (which they can). But the good ones are made to look like they are/were no good at their job or incompetent (although they are/were there for years), when in fact its their "leader" that doesn't have a clue what they are doing cause they are too busy doing googly eyes at a tool that isn't going to save the company or dept - and can't think for themselves, so just lie and blame it on someone else. No one does or says anything so nothing changes, and the few that do speak up...well no one listens anyway. But lets hire interns to do a full-time job, that'll solve everything - the company doesn't want to spend money on new people anyway. And they'll hire their special friends so that they can collect the referral money cause they need it (not like anyone else could use it) but surprise, that person also isnt good at their job.

Pros

The people I worked directly with, outside of management, were brilliant for the short duration most of them are there. Outside of that, nothing, this place is awful.

Cons

Where to begin. The company pretends to strive on culture yet provides zero to none. Built on legacy employees who were there from the beginning and awful management who refuses to take accountability for anything. They prefer to push blame on others thus causing a vicious cycle of churn amongst lower level employees. Upper Management has no idea what they are doing, especially on the sales side. Adding more meetings doesn't justify closed business. And firing reps who try to correct you or help fix an issue because they provide a good idea that goes against your views or outsmarts you is just pathetic and sad. A CEO who is aware of the scare tactics used by other C-level execs and allows it to go on without a word. The product is not good. Built for old legacy customers and can't adjust to the times to realize newer and more innovative companies will surely pass them and crush the company into nothing. The product is expensive and basically a managed service, not a software. Compensation and goals are impossible to achieve. They started by giving people a good base because they place an unrealistic number on your head knowing you will never achieve the on target goals they provide. Then when they see you are about to close a bunch of business, choose to remove you from the company to avoid having to pay you. This happened to several employees outside of myself and probably will continue to happen. They also hired so many sales development reps at almost nothing that they are removing the quailty sales reps that they paid a higher base salary, to replace with those sales development reps because they think they will get the same quality of sales person. They haven't and it's showed by the lack of deals closing and the number of sales development reps who have even left. Overall this company is a joke and I rarely say this about anywhere I work but this definitely tops the cake.

Where to begin indeed. While it is distressing to receive this review, the description of life at MotionPoint is impossible to reconcile with the actual facts, including: #1 the impressive results achieved by the large majority of MotionPoint sales team members, #2 the considerable support, training, and tools sales team members receive to be successful, and #3 the substantial coaching under-performing individuals receive prior to termination (which it appears was not well received here). While we work very hard at MotionPoint to screen and hire only those with the skills and character to fit our culture and be successful, we will occasionally be wrong as we clearly were in this instance. We will use this feedback to refocus our efforts in this area as we continue growing and investing in the over 300 talented professionals that drive MotionPoint forward – working hard every day to extend our 18+ year track record of business success and technology leadership.
