Pros

Great work-life balance with a decent base salary and benefits, hybrid or remote work environment. The opportunity to work with whatever industry you want. Lots of potential for sales but the problem with closing them is discussed in the Cons.

Cons

The company is about 3 years old (after being sold to a UK-based company and hiring new management) and there is a severe lack of leadership and a negative sales culture. Management on multiple levels takes an unprofessional and ego-filled approach to managing people, lacking dignity and respect. The company culture was intolerable and void of any normal positive sales culture as there were no energizing sales meetings, no real contests, and no real direction on where the company was going. There is a lot of potential for sales but closing deals alone is nearly futile due to the type of clientele making it very difficult if not impossible to hit the quota within the timelines management wants. The clients are primarily smart executives and attorneys at Fortune 1000 companies and the deals take 3-9 months to close on average, this means that closing deals requires help from your leadership and legal team but they are not accessible or willing to truly help unless you are already a top performer. It takes over a year to really gain the needed experience on how to be effective at this job. Further, the growth opportunities to expand your career are minimal as the company has a very small leadership team and there is no long-term incentive program.

Hi it’s Rory here, CEO at MPLC. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. I appreciate effort you’ve taken to share your thoughts. I’ll be honest - it was challenging read for me and I’m sorry your experience with us wasn’t more positive. I’ve shared your review with my leadership team and we will think about the various points you’ve made. It’s important to me that we embrace constructive criticism and continually question how we can operate better. As a fast-growing company we have made many changes in the last few years. While we aim to drive change that is beneficial to our employees, customers and partners, we don’t always get everything right. I try to encourage transparency and open dialogue so feedback like yours helps us continue to implement positive change while we continue to grow quickly. I want to wish you all the best in your next role and hope that some of your experience with us will be valuable in the rest of your career.

Pros

Remote work Great team Hard time coming up with a 3rd pro

Cons

Company raised prices over 300% since 2022 We lie to companies. It really is disheartening. They tell you it’s the law and compliance based but it’s not. Most lawyers we speak with are smart enough to understand this is not needed. Most reps do not hit quota and leave in under a year. Not because of effort but because the sales cycle is 3-9 months

Hi, It’s Rory here, CEO at MPLC. Thanks for your review and clearly things didn’t work out the way either of us would have wanted during your time with us. I’m sorry you didn’t feel able to speak to me or one of the leadership team before you left. I work hard to be approachable and I would have been happy to listen to how you were feeling and to share some context and perspective which may have been helpful. In terms of your idea that we lie to customers I must take my opportunity to state that is simply incorrect. MPLC has been a partner to major Hollywood studios for over 30 years. We make sure they receive the royalties they are due when companies use their movies and content in public. The idea that we or our rightsholders are lying is quite an assertion and simply not correct. Major organisations around the world, including global corporations, government bodies and many well known brands purchase the MPLC licence. We work with their legal departments on almost every sale, so the legal framework which we operate in has been tested and checked literally hundreds of times. B2B sales is always a long cycle and ours at 3-9 months is not long at all compared to many. B2C sales can often have shorter cycles which may be something to explore for your next role. And in terms of your headline - to be honest I hope we always retain some of our start-up energy, however old we get. I think the key to success in life and business is staying hungry, adaptable and ambitious. That being said, I really am sorry it didn't work out how we would all have wanted it and wish you the very best in whatever you do next Rory

Pros

Some great people who making working here tolerable

Cons

Some terrible people who made working here impossible. There is an undertone of misogynism in many interactions with a particular manager. Complaints have gone unacted on and good people pushed out to protect poor behaviour

Hi, it’s Rory here, CEO at MPLC. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback and I’m sorry your experience with us wasn’t more positive. Me and our leadership team are committed to building an inclusive and respectful culture where everyone can grow and develop. I’m concerned to hear about the issues you’ve highlighted and take allegations like this seriously. We have several channels for reporting and addressing concerns within our company and our people team are focused on improving our systems and processes to help ensure all employees have equal opportunities and a supportive environment to work in. Without knowing a little more about the team or country where you worked, it's difficult for me to be more proactive in trying to address the specific concerns you have raised. If you would be open to discussing your experience further, please feel free to reach out to me directly, or you can contact hr@mplc.com to speak to a member of our HR team. Thanks again for your review and I wish you all the best for the future. Rory
