A Long Term Employee's Treatment Turned Company Perception Sour
Pros
If you enjoy rubbing elbows and brown nosing the right people, you will advance quickly within this company. The moment you are not in someone's favor, though, your growth and development will be stunted. They preach how important personal life is and to maintain a work life balance but the expectation can be different. Plenty of jobs coming open in future thanks to piggy backing off Universal's expansion and the new leadership's aggressive expansion plan. However, previous leadership (Paul Whetsell) had an aggressive plan to "double the size of the company in 5 years" which did not happen.
Cons
The politics of the company are ridiculous. If the right person favors you, you will be mentored, and developed quickly and advance right up the ladder. If you were brought in and have been identified as someone who is capable of advancement, STAY IN THAT PERSON's favor. The moment you are not, your growth will be stunted and professionalism is thrown out the door in regards to transferring departments, cross-training, and being considered for special recognition or projects. They are willing to hang their employees out to dry and terminate them after years of service without considering their length of service, previous record, and the individual circumstances in the case. They have skirted laws, and abuse their salaried employees, expecting 10-12 hour days out of them. The above-mentioned work/life balance is a joke if you are expected to "perform to their expectation of a manager or leader". They squeeze every last drop out of their employees and show minimal appreciation for it. Currently they are undergoing unionization battles, and frankly the employees do need some representation for their rights. I don't condone unions in hotels as I think it hinders the guests experiences, but someone needs to stand up to the low wages, over working, and under appreciation this company is practicing.
