Pros

Working with the clients is enjoyable and rewarding.

Cons

It is obvious to anyone who works or has worked there, that the positive reviews are done by HR. Management has serious deficiencies in emotional intelligence. They pick out employees to harass into worshiping them. They are top heavy with VPs who are at best middle management caliber and have huge egos that need to be constantly stroked. HR sides with Management which makes it a hostile and toxic environment. The sad part is they don’t care how well you work with the clients which should be their primary concern.

Pros

Paid time off is very good but you have to find your own coverage and other people are not always reliable. Working with the developmentally disabled population is rewarding. They are sweet.

Cons

The pay is too low. Lots of stress dealing with all residents issues, mentally, physically, doctor appointments, medications, tons of paperwork. House Managers and Directors do not manage employees well. They continuously ignore below par staff, leaving the remaining staff to always pick up the slack of lazy, incompetent employees. Totally unfair and a good way to lose excellent employees. Some employees continuously do NOT do their job (I'm talking for years and years! It's disgusting that they are allowed to continue receiving a paycheck for not working!) and nothing happens to them. If there is a raise everyone receives the same percentage regardless of performance. There is no incentive for the incompetent and lazy employees to do better since they have no fear of being fired and they always receive a raise with everyone else. Also, dealing with employees that have no desire to work, and zero nurturing nature to work with the developmentally disabled, they have no patience in dealing with people who constantly need your help. People in this population need our help that's why we have a job, if they could do everything on their own then you wouldn't have a job! Don't take this job if you don't have patience and have no love to give these folks. Why would you take this job?
