A case study for burnout

Business outlook

Pros

- Talented roster of intelligent colleagues - Solid product - Mid-Level managers and ICs are competent - Executives are productive - Rocketship - Great equity and above average comp

Cons

- Burnout in the pursuit of meeting unachievable expectations set by leaders who don't care about you - All roads lead to 2-3 execs who own every decision - "Did I just join a B2B SaaS company or the Marines?" - If work life balance is in your top 5, don't even sniff it - At times operates like a 50 person company with nearly 1,000 employees - "What is product even doing back there. I never know what they're doing" - Nauseatingly painful growth - Trickle down stress that is palpable regardless of your position - Your manager will go to bat for you until it impedes on their M.O. - Severe lack of empathy and opportunistic culture resulting from pressure - You will frequently consider the pros & cons of: does the pursuit of money outweigh the percentage of my soul which has been sacrificed in its pursuit? - Everyone is afraid and aging faster than a president at wartime

Pros

- focus on enablement (but most of your week is taken up with internal calls)

Cons

- draconian surveillance tactics to ensure employees are spending 8 hours plus at their computers - extreme focus on daily metrics leads to gaming by employees and punitive measures by management - reps told during interview process that they'll be focused on large enterprise/major accounts, but actually assigned commercial/mid-market accounts upon starting job, as Lacework product is not ready for the large enterprise yet - 20% of company laid off because Lacework consistently missing it's quarterly number; bottom line: very few reps are closing deals and most deals rely on tremendous discounting due to lack of differentiation and demonstrated value - product is absolutely NOT differentiated in a crowded market: messaging and functionality identical to numerous competitors - primary investor (Sutter Hill Ventures) had one flash-in-the-pan major success (Snowflake) and is trying to replicate that here. One needs only look at the massive layoff that was just conducted to see how that's going for them - culture of fear fostered by executive "leadership;" discrimination (and racist epithets) common and ignored - NOBODY IS SELLING ANYTHING!!! Do not give up your earning potential at your current job, or other promising companies, as the likelihood of you making commission dollars here are MINISCULE - losing deals to better-adjusted competitors across the board - losing existing customers like crazy; customer churn is worse than I've seen anywhere, as is employee churn This place is a dumpster fire. I'm out as soon as I find a place

Pros

TAM in this space is very high, growing customer base, the Significant round

Cons

An incompetent executive team not grounded in reality. Ruthless leaders who fired employees on the third day of newly hired training and rescinded the offers who were about to join in a few days
