LSU Foundation has an employee rating of 3.7 out of 5 stars, based on 23 company reviews on Glassdoor which indicates that most employees have a good working experience there. The LSU Foundation employee rating is in line with the average (within 1 standard deviation) for employers within the Education industry (3.7 stars).
The Foundation laid off 41 people (30% of its staff) in April 2020. This was right after it raised more than $1M on its giving day, more than the previous year. Frontline and back office staff were let go. Several fundraisers who moved to Baton Rouge two years ago were part of the cuts. These were not performance-based. They just wanted to cut expenses. Staff are disposable to them.

In April 2020, the LSU Foundation laid off 30 percent of our team as a necessary and very difficult response to unanticipated budget pressures created by COVID-19 and a shift in fundraising strategy to drive immediate-use dollars. Like many businesses with limited revenue sources, within the pandemic environment, we’ve been forced to adjust our operations to continue being responsible stewards of our budget dollars. To address those realities, the LSU Foundation needed a leaner operational structure that our refocused budget can support. We are proud of our Tiger community for making Giving Day 2020 such a success. Those dollars were in support of academics at LSU, not in support of our operations. We are deeply committed to our team and are proud to have been recognized as one of Baton Rouge’s Best Places to Work for the past two years. We look forward to sharing more with qualified candidates who believe in the power of higher education to transform lives.
Great behind the scene staff to support Development work.
Cons
This did not apply to me, but I witnessed too many older employees let go. It was based on age, no matter what they may say. Take a peek at the staff. Diversity was not a thing until it was a thing. Ageism is still a very big thing.

The LSU Foundation embraces and complies with all equal opportunity employer laws and, as part of our overall commitment to diversity, has consistently increased diversity among our team through proactive recruiting and hiring practices. We welcome and support employees of a wide age range, including through our generous retirement plan and health benefits. We are proud to have just concluded our most successful fundraising year ever and to have surpassed LSU’s campaign goal more than three years early. We offer many pathways for employees to share and discuss concerns, and we welcome the opportunity to do so.

Cons
Cut 41 people during the pandemic while the organization was ahead of its goals during its capital campaign — purely a business decision and absolutely outrageous

Thank you for the opportunity to provide context for this criticism. LSU’s academic fundraising goals changed shortly before the pandemic. In spring 2020, we re-envisioned the LSU Foundation to drive immediate-use dollars, with a focus on scholarships. We have an important fiduciary responsibility to be excellent stewards of our funds. The layoff decision was made realizing that many good people would be impacted during a very difficult time. The LSU Foundation provided continuation of 100% of salary and benefits, extended free access to our employee assistance program, and free placement services through both an employment agency and our in-house Talent Management staff. Nearly every person impacted by the layoff successfully secured employment before the time period for this support lapsed. Additionally, in the past year, former employees of the LSU Foundation have returned to the LSU Foundation to fill vacancies. We are truly sorry that the poster’s perception of the LSU Foundation is so negative. Last year was a challenging year for many organizations. As we move forward, our focus is on continuing to support our team as we work together to meet LSU’s extraordinary academic potential.
