Pros

Leaving at the end of the day was the only pro of working here.

Cons

You will receive one day of “training”, wherein you will be told quickly in passing how to do a few tasks and use the antiquated software still used in this office. This “training” will be vastly insufficient, and you will be punished, disciplined, or otherwise verbally berated by the owner Jack Bowerman for seeking clarification or instructions from either himself, or the few other staff there who all live in fear of Jack’s violent mood swings, and incompetent management style. The office is awkwardly quiet, and the only tasks you will be issued come from Jack Bowerman himself. You will often arrive to work with no tasks assigned, and be at a loss otherwise as to how to keep busy for several hours until you are assigned some menial task that will take a few minutes to complete. Jack will then become angry with you for not getting anything done, as if the ability to read his mind is required in order to work here. While I am unsure if any woman alive would marry this man, he has a very strange and almost perverted attachment to his secretary, who is very clearly many years his junior. Nobody is to speak to, approach the desk of, email, breathe in the presence of, or otherwise look at his secretary. Seeking clarification as to your job detail through her is also strictly forbidden. During my short time here, I witnessed what could only be described as a revolving door type of hiring occur. New hires often would last only a week, or a month or less due to the appalling type of behaviour by the company owner that I’ve mentioned earlier in this review. The only long term staff member there is routinely verbally abused by Jack Bowerman, and does the bulk of his work. Do not work here. Do not have your tax returns done here. Do not in any capacity associate yourself or your business with Jack Bowerman or his “professional” corporation. Consider yourself warned.

Pros

As a receptionist, I could tell customers respect and trust the office and people working here. However that is the ONLY kind of respect I received in the 6 days I worked there.

Cons

I am a non-Canadian, I got 7.5 (out of 9) score in IELTS (an international recognized English proficiency test) and 9 in speaking, on the 2nd day of work the owner told me there was 'someone' who didn't understand my English (I have been in Canada for 3 years and yet nobody has told me they don't understand my English), since then the abuse started. I had never got any clear instruction on what I supposed to do, I was like a robot doing every little step told by him, he didn't allow me to ask anyone else in the office either. He has hundred rules (not all cleared stated, they're on his mind) including 'no disturbing boss 1 hour before and after his client meetings', and he didn't welcome me knocking on his door (which was always closed) and ask him questions. I was sitting there all day waiting for his instructions for a simple task such as printing an address label, then waiting for another hour for another little task, I was not allowed to start doing anything without his instruction. On the other hand he kept telling me he wanted me to complete all the files (for about 30 clients) in my section within 2 weeks, I once tried to guess and start on my own and when I was wrong, he used rude and sarcastic words to insult me. He gave me instruction in a way like 'print the label and stick it on the envelope, NOW, not next year'. No mobile phone was allowed. No discussion between staffs was welcome, he always interrupted and stopped us using different strange reasoning (such as before my client meeting YOU (the staff) were not supposed to be standing here (my seat at the reception). On the 3rd day, he called a meeting for 3 of we staffs, scolding at a staff who has been working for him for 10 years, for not performing proper training on me (regarding what to do with filing the receipts of Canada Post), he threw a paper file onto the staff's body, shouting 'this is the way you were disrespectful to the new staff, throwing receipts on her and expected what she would know what to do' (he actually didn't do anything on me disrespectful, he just forgot to tell me what to do with the receipts). I instantly became the culprit at no choice, feeling embarrassed. To me, he just wanted to show and demonstrate his authority over his staffs but in the most abusive way. I had to work overtime for 1-2 hours some of the days, waiting for his instruction for work, which I was not given during my normal working hours. One time he asked me to leave but if I did I would be unable to finish my assigned tasks for that day, that would definitely give him a chance to blame on me again. Besides discouraging, nervous, embarrassed feelings and anxiety, I did not have other kinds of feeling in that office. Everyday I stepped out of the office feeling like released from a prison.

Pros

Absolutely nothing. Free parking doesn’t even come close to making it worth it to work here.

Cons

I worked for Jack Bowerman for roughly 1 week in 2019. From the first day, I had such an anxious feeling because of how Jack presents himself. Right off the bat, he is rude, condescending, literally laughs in your face and makes you feel completely worthless. I tried to stick it out for a few days because I needed the job and experience of working in an office. I had to put my dignity first. I wouldn’t accept nor tolerate the type of behaviour he displayed from anyone outside of work, therefore I refused to put up with it from a man I just began working for. On about the 5th day, I walked out after being told I was “stupid” because I put the wrong type of label on a file (even though I was never even shown what type of label to use for which file). There were 2 other people working there when I was. One woman who was almost at the end of her rope, and one gentleman who had been working for Jack for years, was subject to Jack’s daily abuse. When walking out, the woman I worked with asked to take my number “just in case” because many employees had left for the same reason as me. Months later I heard from this woman who said she had just walked out as well. The last straw was when she watched Jack Bowerman physically attack the man who worked for him. The woman watched as Jack threw punches and the man had his hands up trying to defend himself. The man then exited Jack’s office with a bloody nose, face scratched up, and blood on his dress shirt. This seems like something out of a money, but sadly enough this is reality. I was unfortunately gone at the point of this incident. I say unfortunately because if I was there and witnessed it, I would have immediately contacted police to have Jack reprimanded. This man not only should not be able to continue a business and hire employees to take his aggression out on, but should have to face the legal consequences of his actions.
