Pros

Some great people that really value the growth of others.

Cons

The company often emphasizes that it values its people, yet employee satisfaction surveys consistently highlight significant concerns. Rather than addressing the root causes of these issues, recent decisions have further impacted morale, including requiring previously remote and hybrid employees to spend more time in the office with little consideration for the additional costs and personal impact. Compensation and salary levels remain below market expectations, while external hires are often brought in at significantly higher salaries. At the same time, ongoing hiring freezes and limited support resources have increased workloads for middle managers and specialists, creating additional pressure on already stretched teams. There is also a growing disconnect between senior leadership and employees. Feedback from middle managers and subject matter experts is often overlooked, while leadership appears more focused on reinforcing its own decisions than engaging with concerns from those closest to the day-to-day work. Perhaps most disappointing is the shift in culture. What was once a mission-driven organization with a strong sense of purpose increasingly feels like a traditional corporate environment, losing many of the qualities that originally made it a great place to work.

On compensation, we use current market data to benchmark salaries to ensure they are fair and equitable within our industry and across roles. While we’ve made progress, we know there is more to do and remuneration remains a focus. In terms of resourcing, we understand the challenges that a hiring freeze can bring for our people. Can’t see the long term vision.

Pros

There are some very valuable people on the team, who genuinely care about helping you succeed in your career, and about giving customers the best experiences. This is what made intrepid so special.

Cons

It seems as though the business has lost a lot of focus. - introducing AI and interrupting the human interaction lifecycle in ways that doesn’t reflect our mission - changing our staff’s schedules and routines on a whim (hiring as remote, then telling them 2x per month, 2x per week to now 3 x per week), this is not great for anyone’s mental health or wellbeing. How do you plan a life around this if work is not predictable? - hiring freezes multiple times over a year is leading team members to burn out while they handle constant friction with cancelled trips and escalations, with no plans to hire for additional support.

It’s good to hear that the support within the team have had such a positive impact, and that the shared focus on helping each other grow and delivering for our customers continues to stand out. We also want to acknowledge your concerns and we understand that change can be challenging. In relation to AI, we are exploring how new tech can support our teams and customers while staying true to the human-first experiences that we value so much. We recently updated our flexible working approach, which is driven by our 'together' value. This asks relevant team members to be in the office a minimum number of days each week to increase connection, speed, and alignment. On resourcing and workload, we recognise the pressure that periods such as hiring pauses can create. Supporting our teams and managing workload is important to us and we will continue to focus on this. Finally, thank you for highlighting the role of listening. We know our people care deeply about Intrepid, and we want to ensure everyone feels heard. One of the way we do this is through our twice yearly all-team surveys, plus wellbeing check ins.
