Pros

Opportunity to travel. Remote work possibilities.

Cons

Everything else. It would be a disservice to any new prospective employee to not give an adequate evaluation of this company. This company provides absolutely no training. Your job is to seem as if you know what you are doing. IDTechEx barely knows what market research is... they think that it is just forming an opinion about the potential of a market...Quite frankly your job is to BS and make a sale. At this company you will gain no marketable skills that will make you competitive in the job market... at least as an Analyst. IDTechEx is similar to the company Markets and Markets. They aspire to be like IHS Markit, Deloitte, Mckinsey and company... etc. but never will. They would need to hire people from business backgrounds and the consultants would need to have extensive industry experience... and not mere academic research experience... Turnover is high, morale is low. You can trust no one at this company as everyone is in competition. Promises are broken. There is no accountability. They themselves a 'market research' company enter new markets without researching such markets... It’s a joke. It is not real and in the long run this job will not help your career. For prospective employees I would recommend that you research similar companies to IDTechEx and compare the qualifications to each other. At IHS Markit the typical consultant has 6-8 years of industry experience at IDTechEx you don’t need industry experience...They hire naive kids who think that they have hit the jackpot but, they are truly entering chaos. This company has been around for nearly 20 years, yet their growth is minimal. Do your research, listen to your mentors. Don’t fall prey to this company. Much better is out there. Also pay is terrible... or more so there is no standard.

Pros

As an analyst, you get to talk to a lot of interesting people and expand your professional network.

Cons

This company is 20 years old but feels like it only started a couple of years ago. It is badly managed and most of their analysts are new recruits with little to no industry experience. Their current model is to hire cheap graduates who will produce reports they can sell for a lot of money. You are told to write a market research report on a subject you are completely new to, and pretend that you are an expert. If there is a problem with the report, they simply fire the analyst and hire someone else to replace them. Trust me you will hear some really bad stories. Just look at the number of reports they sell vs the number of analysts they have. One of the reviews below was written by a Director. Well of course, if you are one of the directors (i.e shareholder) then you are going to be "very happy". For regular employees it is a totally different story. The way they treat their people is just shocking. Most of them are unhappy and constantly scared of losing their job. Also, people at the top have been vocal about supporting Brexit, which made some employees quietly uncomfortable. Unless you are desperate for a job, it is better to avoid this company.

Small company culture and mind set

Pros

No-one is micro managed, it maintains the start-up/small company culture, plenty of friendly people willing to help, good selection of research topics.

Cons

Senior management is unconventional, the benefits are average, the small company culture = lacking any real ambition and direction, unsure if the company even has corporate values to promote
