Pros

The work is 100% remote.

Cons

Everything else. No Holidays off except Christmas Day Minimal Vacation and you are made to feel bad when trying to use it. Processes Change about every week. Can't go to HR with any issues, she's besties with the owner. People are let go for no reason, really they were told Hip2Save is an 'At Will Employer' when asked why they were let go. People are let go and the rest of the team isn't told. Managers talk about their employees as being annoying and clueless. They act like they care about their employees, but they see their employees as easy to replace work horses. Work/Life balance is nonexistent and impossible. The moral is super low and over fake feeling when it seems like everyone is happy. You will never ever do enough work. You will never feel like they are happy with what you have done or are doing. If you want to work somewhere where you will feel like you never know what to do because the process changed again, where you are never appreciated, where your emails are read and suggestions are given to you for it before you've even read it and you love to work 24/7 for no raises, this is your place.

Hip2Save Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us regarding your experience at Hip2Save, though we are saddened to hear it wasn’t the expectations you had in mind. Working at Hip2Save is fast-paced, no doubt about that. And the no holidays off is of course not an ideal situation as an employee, but we keep this a policy across the board and are always vocal about this in the hiring process. As a site that never closes (with the exception of Christmas Day), working holidays have become a must since oftentimes this is when the best deals happen, thus requiring our team to be available to work. The mention of minimal vacations is simply not true. We ask for notice before employees go on break and coverage is assigned so employees can enjoy time off. If anything, we encourage employees to take time off! One thing that is so very important to us is to make sure our entire Hip2Save team feels incredibly valued, and we truly apologize if you didn’t find this to be the case. We will admit in our busy seasons, it’s all too easy for the management team to get caught up in the fast-paced nature of the beast (aka Hip2Save). However, the part about management being negative is difficult to hear because that’s just not the case. Our core values include accountability, compassion, integrity, passion and respect. We are extremely proud of how selective we are when hiring to ensure each and every employee possesses the same core values we do. Having analyzed many of the reviews regarding the company culture, we’ve completely restructured the onboarding process, started holding larger team meetings to involve all facets of the company, prioritized sharing vital company information to keep all team members in the loop, and continue to seek out ways to improve the employee experience. We cannot deny that working at Hip2Save is unlike most other job experiences, but we have made it a crucial initiative to be as transparent and honest in the hiring process so no new team member ever feels blindsided by the expectations. Truth be told, our processes do frequently change to meet the needs of our team members to be as efficient and effective as possible. This may not be for everyone, and that’s okay with us. But it’s not okay for any Hip2Save employee (past, present, or future) to feel undermined or undervalued. As mentioned above, we are transparent about every detail even before an offer is presented to a prospective employee, so there are no surprises. This company was built on morals and ethics. The mission of the company is to help others save money. We value each and every person that works at Hip2Save. Are we fast-paced? Yes. Are we fierce? Yes. Are we loyal? Yes. If you can’t handle constructive feedback, or if you’re not a positive person or passionate about what you do or what the brand stands for, then Hip2Save is probably not the right place for everyone. As mentioned, Hip2Save has worked hard to create a culture of warmth and appreciation. Again, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We truly appreciate your candidness.

Pros

Remote Work Coworkers can be encouraging Make good friends

Cons

In this environment, you cannot succeed, learn and grow. There is a lack of training, and employees are held accountable for this lack of training. When asked for more training or a job description, it is not provided and deemed not necessary. Micromanagement is excessive from the CEO of the company. You feel like you are walking on eggshells. It's very stressful and hard to do your job under these circumstances. Micromanaging every aspect of the company is a detriment to the employees. There are no annual raises, instead, you have to beg for them. In response to these reviews, the company will respond that yearly raises are given, but they are not. When you do get a raise, it is less than the annual inflation. Random products show up at your door without reason. When questioned about why a product arrives, you are told to review the product and take & edit pictures and videos. This is not done during work hours. It must be done during your off-work time using personal devices and uploading digital content to company programs. The review process takes several hours to several days. You receive no compensation. A $20 - $30 product does not account for six or more hours of extra work using personal devices. Occasionally, an employee may be asked before a product arrives. Receiving the product is your compensation. The problem is when items arrive without being asked, which happens often. There is a fear of saying no because you'll lose your job, as demonstrated by the history of employees disagreeing with the CEO. There is no work/life balance. Outside of working during your off-time for product reviews, you are expected to work other times while not being paid. Employees are told to find deals in stores, take pictures and videos and upload them on personal time. It is mentioned in work channels almost weekly. Check work correspondence must be done daily, so as not to miss critical daily updates and announcements. This includes after-work hours, vacation, and days off. Extra time is not given to check for these updates as you must start working immediately on other tasks. Employees are held accountable for missing work updates. There are no stipends or compensation for using your personal computer, phone, and internet. Employees must load apps onto personal phones for the good of the company to test codes. Refusal to load apps or ask a coworker for help, results in being humiliated for not doing your job correctly. The number of apps exceeds 30 including work management systems apps and other apps deemed mandatory for work productivity. Although the SEO will say she wants feedback on improving company processes, the input goes largely ignored, or you are mistreated for providing input. When given feedback that the CEO doesn't like, employees are targeted. When targeted, an employee is ignored and receives no credit for achievements, while others on the same team receive accolades. Employees are also criticized for their work and held to different standards than other employees. All of this happens while receiving great performance reviews and no proof otherwise that performance is lacking. This pattern often ends with firing an employee without notice. Due to nepotism, the CEO hires unqualified employees who create extra work for others through mistakes and completing tasks incorrectly. Other employees must take up the slack and fix the errors. These problems translate to the customers and reduce brand trust. Due to nepotism, select employees receive special treatment as mistakes, and low productivity is overlooked. No one is trained to help employees with staff development, labor relations, and culture. Due to nepotism, there is no safe place to talk to anyone about company policies or grievances, and mental health is not a priority. There is no work/life balance, and missed time due to a family issue (taking kids to school/ doc appointments), is expected to be made up versus using PTO or taking time off w/o pay. Be careful in reviewing company responses to these reviews. After enough defensive responses are written, it becomes clear who is telling the truth. They try to say there are inconsistencies in these reviews. The only discrepancies are in their lack of acting upon employee complaints.
