CEO is toxic

Pros

Co-workers were great to work with. Everyone is in the trenches together.

Cons

The CEO is absolutely toxic. I didn’t listen to the Glassdoor reviews and that was a mistake. All of the bad reviews are 100% true! Management pushed employees to leave 5 star reviews to help boost their score. Those reviews aren’t true. I witnessed so many bad practices. Employees are treated like trash. Management will lie to your face and scream at you for their screwups. You are expected to be available at all times and treated like a child from a beaten home. The CEO brags about building this company out of college. It’s clear the CEO has zero corporate experience. He acts like this company is still being ran out of a dorm room. My advice for anyone thinking of working for this company… run away as fast as you can. It’s not worth the crap you will go through.

Pros

You can be high as a kite all day and no one will care

Cons

Working at Hemper.com was, to put it mildly, a pretty rough ride. First off, forget about PTO – it’s just not a thing there, which feels a bit out of step with, well, basic human needs. Then there's the vibe from management – not great. Instead of support and guidance, think more along the lines of verbal lashings. It's one thing to be driven; it's another to feel overworked, underappreciated, and underpaid. And don't get me started on communication. Despite no cell phone allowances, management still slid into my texts expecting replies when they couldn't be bothered to use the official channels. Speaking of management, they've got this coming and going freedom that's the complete opposite of how they micromanage the rest of us. Oh, and the cherry on top? Dishonesty. I've seen managers straight-up lie and throw people under the bus to save their own skin. All in all, my time at Hemper.com was far from stellar. It's a mix of missed opportunities for a positive work environment and a management style that could really use a complete overhaul.
