My experience at Gay Men’s Health Crisis was marked by poor management, lack of structure, and what felt like deeply unfair workplace practices.
There was little to no proper onboarding or training, yet expectations were high and inconsistently enforced. Management often failed to provide the guidance needed to succeed, and when concerns were raised, they were frequently dismissed or ignored.
There were clear inconsistencies in how employees were treated. As a Black employee, I experienced workplace dynamics that reflected bias and inequity, particularly in how support, accountability, and communication were applied across staff.
I also observed practices and decision-making that raised serious concerns for me about compliance and oversight. While I cannot speak to internal investigations, what I witnessed did not align with the level of accountability expected in an organization of this kind.
Additionally, negative feedback about the organization does not appear to remain visible over time, which raises concerns about transparency and whether prospective employees are seeing an accurate picture of the workplace.
Ultimately, I left due to the impact the environment had on my well-being and the lack of meaningful support or accountability.
