Cons
Promotions are based on power play and popularity. Worst ever IT control based functions. If you come from a mature background, you will reek in disgust at how “security”team managers with no control mileage or relevant credentials blame everyone else for their own lack of foresight. it’s all blame and no accountability. There’s a lot of double standards, condescension and bullying that go on under the radar. Some mid level managers insist on having line of sight and micro manages everything everyone does, from grammar checks to calling you stupid, insults your dressing and then tells you that you don’t have a future. Senior IT governance based function managers bully the apps teams with nasty emails and an iron fist in a show of power and public shaming in order for the apps teams to comply but the same manager does not apply the same rules when his own team breaks the rules and approves his own controls. At the rate he was going, you’d think he was probably an agent of foreign influence. Managers do not empower people to reach theIr full potential and lack leadership skills. They’re leaders by appointment and authority, but not by character. Instead, there’s a lot of desk slamming, shouting and fear inducing, all done in public. Sneaky culture. People actually get rewarded for telling on others. The culture has changed a lot in the past few years. You can’t really trust who’s telling on you for that promo or conversion. You can’t avoid politics altogether. Doing your own work and minding your own business doesn’t guarantee you will be left alone.
