The almighty dollar

Pros

Staff are very committed to the service of others. The staff work hard to complete care, complete requirements and maintain the building with virtually nothing for a budget.

Cons

The moto "Committed to Kindness" is far from the truth. The company is relentless in the management of the almighty dollar and is not above ethical or questionable standards clinically to make a dollar. I had an opportunity to speak to other administrative folks and found a similar result. The owner twice disciplined by the Colorado Board of Administrators in the mid 2000's and no longer licensed in Colorado. The second board action indicates neglect on his part in the care of the resident's. Now he runs an orphanage in Zimbabwe where he care for children. Staff are strongly encouraged to provide donations to the orphanage and profits are also used to manage this endeavor. The owner is around a couple months a year. The company has no regard for loyalty are staff needs personally or professionally. They lay blame for their downfalls. This may be due to the CEO who was a tire salesman. Not sure how this occurred to go from selling tires to CEO with no healthcare experience. Its clear he is a salesman when you talk to him as he know the technics to sell whatever it is he it traying to do. The experience with the CFO is interesting. It appears he was also the CFO of a company named Mariner which resulted in bankruptcy. Working with residents, family and staff found that they cant get support of help from the corporation and that complaints go unanswered. Families complain that calls to the integrity number go unanswered and ignored. From a logistics view there is a lot of potential for the Kansas communities but little in the way of help or support.

Pros

The individual workers were great. Even the corporate reps' seem to really care about the residents. But to say this company is cheap is to cheapen the word cheap. They let the facility get so run down that they could be called slum lords. OK, a bit of an exaggeration, but not much. They sold out to Ensign Group, who specializes in struggling senior care facilities. They just abandoned the place their last month. Didn't pay the bills, didn't respond to anything residents needed, they just bailed. The most galling thing of all was their complete lack of truthfulness with the employees. Some were laid off with only days, or hours' notice. Yet they told us all that we would all stay on with the new company. Ensign Group, for their part, appears to be even cheaper, more soul-less and uncaring of their resident's quality of life. So, this facility looks like its going to continue its high turnover, low pay, low morale environment. What a freaking shame! Good residents and good employees all. But with owners who worship the sign of the dollar like it was an idle, I don't have a lot of hope. Very sad.

Cons

Barely a good first job. Non-existent training for new employees, yet they hire folks with no experience because they can pay them less.
