Pros

Decent pay, PTO and holiday time off. Business casual. Growing company with great opportunities if you are a man. Women- not so much.

Cons

As often happens in business, you get new management or ownership and everything changes. Not always for the good. I used to love my job where I was treated like family and with respect and in turn I respected my boss and the CEO and gave 110% every day to help us succeed. My loyalty was earned. I worked very independently and was given all the rope I needed to shine. Now my wings are clipped as everything has changed. Management only wants "yes people". Despite my long track record of success and great results- management doesn't listen any more. Well- they will listen, but you are just wasting your breath because your ideas & opinions go in one ear and out the other. They have their own ideas of the direction they want to go and input is no longer needed despite the fact that I know my job like the back of my hand & I have done very well at it. It's very frustrating after spending so many years giving my blood, sweat and tears into the success of this company and now being marginalized. While I feel the company will continue to grow rapidly, I'm not sure I can continue to take being micromanaged and not having the responsibility and authority I used to have. There's just no challenge being a yes person.

Pros

If you like to be overwhelmed with work then this is the place for you. The company utilizes an 80/20 policy, if you can take care of 80 percent of the customers then the other 20 percent weren't important anyway (you think I'm kidding). Very, very negative work environment.

Cons

Annual reviews. Scale was a 1 to 4 on performance, experience and product knowledge. According to management, "no one is a 3.5 or 4". The above average employee that does their job above average, works well with customers and promotes sales would only score a 2. Nothing less than a 3 overall (and there are 15 categories) would even garner consideration for a raise. In over 5 years of employment never once received a rate increase. The 401k was eliminated. Office equipment was allowed to decline to unusable. 60 hour work weeks with no overtime. No commission structure.

Pros

It did provide me a pay check

Cons

Where do I start? When I was hired I was honest and made sure they knew this was my first office position. The manager wasted no time in getting into the habit of ALWAYS talking down to me. She nit picked everything I did. The training was abysmal. Almost from the start I was put on a performance improvement plan (pip). ( Part of my pip included a reprimand for using the rest room too many times one day, not being allowed to take 2 - 15 min breaks like everyone else and being forced to keep my winter coat by the entry door rarely used because I'm a smoker and although I wash my winter coat frequently I was told my coat smelled bad) I would get in trouble for asking questions. (Yes when I got stuck and asked a question of a fellow co worker who had trained me the manager came by to reprimand me for the question I asked 30 mins later) On top of that my immediate supervisor would always "trim' my hours. If I came in 10 mins early she would change my entry to arrived exactly on time. I was given unpaid tasks that had to be completed BEFORE I arrived for work (example pick up donuts from a specific bakery for a meeting on my way into work) If I ran late because I was completing tasks for the company the immediate supervisor would edit my clock in time to reflect that I was late. I offered to assist a sales rep with a project - but wasn't told a key piece of information so all my work was wasted and the sales rep still had to do the work correctly. Instead of counseling me about it or even trying to get to the bottom of what happened (so I could improve) she told me point blank EVERYONE in the office thought I was too stupid to assist with tasks so no one wanted to allow me to help them anymore. I finally was able to get off the PIP just in time to notify her I had secured a new job and would be leaving. I am seriously considering therapy because I STILL struggle to ask questions at all my subsequent positions.
